Favorite Things (and not so favorite things)

We had the actually 15mo appointment today.  Which everything that I wrote on his actual 15mo anniversary is still true, but we've added some things, like doing things himself.

The appointment went well, but as with the sick kid appointment before, this appointment revolves around his weight.  The nurse measured his height and it came up 30inches, but when the doctor measured him in July, he was 30.25.  I let the nurse put 30inches in the chart, because I wanted him to see it.  And sure enough, he looks at it and says, "well he didn't shrink."  There are descrepencies with how he is measured!  When the doc remeasured him, he measured 31in.

Grady eats.  He just would rather play.  And I can't let him snack all day long because then he wont eat his dinner.  And he needs to eat his dinner.  The doctor said that he's getting all the nutrients he needs, he's meeting every milestone and growing, so he's getting quality, he's just not getting quantity.

The result?  Don't worry about it (yeah right) and spike his milk with pediasure.  But it's frustrating (and I know you can't compare - all kids are different) but so many kids I know are much much younger than G and passing him in weight.  My cousin's son just now 6 months old, weighs a pound more than G.  My friends son, about to be 4 months old, weighs 19 pounds.  Now, the 4 month old's dad is like ... oh 7 feet tall, so it's genetics.

I've started doing things I don't really like ... switching him back to whole milk for the fat content, using real butter on everything for him (like tonights quesadilla) and (this is the real one I don't like ) deserts.  Grady can now have cookies or pudding or ice cream after dinner, and he can have one cookie after lunch (oreos are his favorite - he can even sort of say cookie and he goes ape and runs for the pantry door when I say cookie).  The quesadilla makes me happy because bless you cheese you are so fattening.

He's now patently refusing vegetables.  The only way I can get him to eat them is purreed peas and letting him use the spoon.  And how much he actually ingests is anyones guess.  The new forks I bought today have probably saved dinner time, because yesterday I about lost my marbles as he threw food at me and refused to eat unless he could use the spoon.  Which he couldn't pick the food up, so he didn't eat any, so we were all frustrated.  Then I gave him an adult fork.  He ate all of his chicken, some peaches, and an orange with the fork.

Sigh.  I'm not the first person to wage food battles with my offspring.  I won't be the last.  But my cousin wrote a cute blog about washing dishes and it led me to comment on her post about how I have to do dishes with G in his chair otherwise he just shuts the dishwasher and tries to turn it on.  Like below ... after dinner tonight ...

Yup, this looks full ...

Let's just close this on up ...

Ahh, got it shut.  Great....
Let me hit a couple buttons here ...

And turn this dial here ... and we're done.  He's a card.  The dishwasher will be his friend for many years.  I will show him these pictures when he argues with me.  But you use to love it!

His treasures.  Random items you say?  Not so!  These are his prized possessions.  A small hairbursh, an empty (no batteries) flashlight, a bathbook, one domino, a textured ball, a car, an empty box, a milk storage container, an empty CD case, an old Shutterfly cou.pon, an old ribbon, and you can't see it but there's a wooden coaster in there.  This entire box probably costs ... oh ... $15 bucks.  And he drags this thing around and adds to it whenever a toy is worthy.

Grady and the dog can't understand why Daddy is outside, and they are not.
