Ready for My Close Up!

The nursery is officially complete. There are a few minor things that will be done after the little guy get's here, but for the most part, this is it.

You'll notice we ended up with a different airplane setup then I originally planned on. But I think this one works out better. The wall color did stay the same, and it's a slightly different blue than this bedding calls for, but I like it. And have I mentioned I hate painting?
The bookcase is an old cheapy that I used when I was in Boston and lived in a shoebox. I have two of them and covered them with curtains and stored clothes in them. I spray painted it red so it'd look more baby appropriate. Please note the crib skirt on this photograph, this will be important later!
These are the art project I was working on here. I couldn't find what I wanted, so I decided to throw something together myself. I think it turned out rather well. There are some ... imperfections, but overall I think they fit with what I was trying to do.

But this, this is my greatest achievement! This is actually a peice off the crib skirt that I ripped the seam of, and rehemmed, and then sewed on loops. Because our crib is not intended to ever have the back showing, so I thought what a waste of lovely (and matching) fabric! I did replace the panel I removed with plain white muslin, just so it wouldn't seem unfinished. It's a tad wide, because I've got it all spread out for this picture, but it bunches up nicely and looks lovely. And for the price of the rod and $.99 muslin for the loops, you really can't beat it.

Now, this seems very simple and easy to do (it was). But the brilliance of it! And I love my new sewing machine. My mother got it for my birthday and I've been sewing baby blankets and burp clothes like they've gone out of style. The machine can even stitch characters so I've been putting the baby's name on EVERYTHING. And it does decorative stitching, so really anything I can find that needs a home made touch, I've been adding leaves or hearts or stars.

This is only the beginning of my foray into the wonderful world of sewing machines, as evidenced by my excitement over these easy to make items. But just think of all the wonderful things I can make!

Anywho. Everythings ready for baby. We received the car seat from our lovely parents (thank you!) so we can legally bring him home. I have supplies, I have books to read to him (very important) and toys for him to play with.

35 weeks.

Let the countdown begin!
