Save Us

From ourselves.

A quote from the treasury department on where the $700B figure came from [original]:

"It's not based on any particular data point," a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. "We just wanted to choose a really large number."

We are all in deep, deep, deep trouble.

From that same article, another gem from Harry Reid, who gets increasingly ridiculous in his hypocrisy and stupidity:

"Do I expect to pass something this week?" Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., mused to reporters Tuesday. "I expect to pass something as soon as we can. I think it's important that we get it done right, not get it done fast."

Just last week we had to do this Friday. Now it's not important to get it done fast. Markets be damned.

Meanwhile, WaMu was taken over on Friday by JPMorgan at the Feds insistence. And Wachovia was acquired by Citi the same way.

Also, remember the debate on Friday? Well one of my friends said she heard Obama won. Really? I saw the debate, and he was not a clear winner. Admittedly, she hadn't seen it. And also admittedly, she's reading liberal blogs. Who of course are going to call their guy the winner.

McCain is being critized for not looking at Obama, the post goes so far as to say he was "contemptuous" of Obama. ??? Did they see the same debate? Because if he was contemptuous, Obama was condescending, referring to him repeatedly as "John."

The Post also says of his posture: "His body language was closed, defensive, tense." Umm ... maybe they'd like to look up the extent of McCain's POW injuries. He physically can't hold himself a different way.

The Post also says that Obama put off "affability and optimism." When? When he was talking about falling back into the depression? And suffering of American's on main street? When he was dodging questions about what he would cut back with the $700B bail out? McCain at least said he'd install a spending freeze. Obama only said some of his plans may be delayed, without saying which ones, and instead offering up new expenditures that would be needed to help suffering Americans.

The fact is that if you were in the tank for Obama before the debate, nothing he did was going to change your mind. If you were going to vote for McCain, well very little he did was that offensive. Save a couple lines about immigration and his incessant talk about bipartisanship.

And if you're in the tank for Obama, nothing that the blogs and responsible journalists brings to light is going to alter your opinion. It won't matter that he has a relationship with a known and admitted domestic terrorist that he refuses to explain. It won't bother you that his work with ACORN while a community organizer in Chicago is part of the reason that we're in this housing boondoggle to begin with, and yet he still continues to point the finger at the White House and Republicans for deregulation. Even thought that deregulation directly benefitted him and his community organizing. His lack of foreign policy experience doesn't scare you, even though you wail that Palin's is lacking and makes her unfit to be VP. It doesn't matter, and the obvious double standard is waved away because ... well because ... well just because. He's Obama. He made a great speech in 2004. And the fact that he's the second most liberal Senator in the place, and most Americans describe themselves as either one step left or right of center ... that lack of alignment with populace opinion doesn't bother you either. Because you know who's thinking that does align with?

Europes. And the press.
