Disgusting
So tonight I'm flipping through the channels. Fox News has the CNN Debate rehash going on. CNN ... Heath Ledger. A lot of Heath Ledger. On and on live streaming video Heath Ledger.
Are you kidding me?
Brad Renfro died at 25 a week ago. One week. And no one batted an eye.
I am not going to comment too much about this, because as it's being reported, he died of a drug overdose. It's terribly, terribly sad. But they aren't sure what killed him yet, so I can't really judge. Yet.
But it does not deserve the hours of coverage that CNN is devoting to this. He was an actor, a young actor, who showed talent and promise. And it might very well be that he had an addiction and overdosed. Which to me, is tantamount to suicide.
We glamorize their deaths and martyr them, creating a drug culture that thrives by responding in this way. River Pheonix, Curt Cobain, Janis Joplin, the hundreds of thousands of others who've been immortalized not only for what they've done professionally ... but for the idiotic way they died.
It was all preventable.
Be careful with your perscription drugs. And friends, if you see something happening to your friend ... say something. I'm disgusted with our celebrity drug culture. Disgusted.
