Tiny Dancer

A million years ago I did ballet.  I can't even accurately tell you how old I was.  This looks like second grade but my memory thinks third grade?  But I don't look old enough.  It may have even been first.  If I spent some time digging I could look it up.

I did not love it.  But I remember it fondly.  I quit.  But maybe we moved.  My sister quit after one class, and that made me not want to do it.  Again, memory fails.  But there's video evidence (again, somewhere) of me marching in this Nutcracker performance as a tin soldier.

As an adult I have mixed feelings about dance and cheer and jazz and tap and hip hop and all the classes/recitals.  We'll just leave it at that for now.  Because it's a still formulating opinion.  I don't like two pieces.  Or spaghetti straps. Or make-up on 2yos.  I see the pictures on FB/Insta and I frown and turn into my grandmother.

That said.

A large part of my job is to help these kiddos find their thing and their people.  And some of that can be done by having a skill (soccer/ballet) or a project (robotics/art/science).  I want to encourage activity and sports and using your body instead of sloth.

As noted previously, Miss J now does dance after school for 30-40min on Tuesdays.  She enjoys it, mostly.  When she feels like it.  For being 3 she listens pretty good.

So they have recital.  And I was/am mixed about her doing it.  That said ...

She is very much a girl in that she loves a new outfit.  If it's sparkly and has a tutu?  I hid it away so she won't ask to play in it too much.  She'll need tights and wish me luck on her hair.  Also ... hope that she'll do her routine which is (seriously) 60 seconds long and she only sometimes participates in.

It'll be three minutes on stage for 90min of prep driving to and from.  And it's not free.  There's a lot of negatives and I'm still working out what positives are from this (aside from adorableness).

Mostly it's just adorable.  I'm paying a lot of money for pictures of her being adorable.  :)
