2017

I have only ever been grateful that one year was over.  And that was 2013 and possibly 2012.  Both of those revolve around the heart surgery.  And ever since then - because of then - if we are all healthy and no one is having major surgery ... it was a great year.

We are blessed beyond words.  Beyond my comprehension.  Beyond what I deserve.

January... a low key month of Cub Scouts and fun.  Including taking the boys to see Plano Children's Theaters production of Magic Tree House Dinosaurs Before Noon.

February ... another quiet month of sweet girls second birthday, for which she was sick and I cancelled her small birthday gathering.  And Big man ditched his training wheels.

March ... a busier month with my visit to NYC for my first actual Broadway Musical.  My 36th birthday.  My first half-marathon.  The big man's soccer season started up again.

April ... Easter in Austin where we tried to see the bats, but none they didn't fly!?  Grady's 7th birthday and our 11th anniversary.

May ... Megan and I ran the Tinkerbell 10k and our whole family (extended included) spent two days at Disneyland.  So many fond memories.

June ... an adults trip to Chicago to see Hamilton! I took the kids to Houston to stay with Lewis at his hotel.  We did NASA, the zoo, and the beach.

July ... we went to Boston with Kenda and Kris on their baseball stadium tour.  We stayed in a Brownstone and did the science museum, Fanheuil Hall, a Duck Tour, the parks along the Charles, and the USS Constitution.

August ... a failed trip to Kentucky.  Our big trip to the Grand Tetons for the Great American Solar Eclipse.  The first day of school for G.

September ... Julia's very first day of preschool.  David's first day of prek-4.  His 5th birthday.  So. Many. Sports.  And our backyard was finally finished.

October ... our trip to Fiesta.  So many fun Halloween activies.

November.  Kentucky for Thanksgiving.  Where we drove through a cave filled with Christmas lights.  Went to the Louisville Slugger museum which had a ton of Astros stuff up everywhere since they won the WS.

December.  So much Merry Christmas-ing.  Including my quick trip to Houston for his Christmas party.  And all the pajamas and Christmas movies my kids could stand.  So many cookies were made.  So many where eaten.

I don't know how this year has passed already.  I spent so much time planning this year.  2016 was my first *free* year but this past year has really been my first because Julia is so much less a baby now.  I can leave her with the babysitter and she doesn't freak out.  I can leave her with her dad and she doesn't freak out.  She is so much more mature.

Watching them grow up is such a blessing to me.  Cataloguing it all is fun for me.  I love it.  I wish I was better about writing down what they say.  Some day I'd like to get to the point that I write down some of their sayings in the photo books I make every year.  But I refuse to stress myself out to that point.  I'll settle for Lewis putting the videos I take into home movie length fun that I'll revisit when they're off at college, or seeing the world, or whatever it is they decide to do away from me.

Fare thee well, 2017.  You were wonderful.  We were all together, healthy and employed.  I am grateful.

2018.  I will approach you with the same attention I gave to 2017, hoping for a similar outcome.

May God bless us all, and keep us safe.
