Weekend

I feel that from now until the first of November our weekends are just going to be insane.  Are weeks too, actually.  The pictures above are just my half of the weekend.  Lewis had an aunt that passed away, and her services were Saturday in Arlington.  So we had a full house of his side of the family in town for the event, and my sister was here for a long planned 1/2 marathon.

And the kids both had soccer games and G had baseball.

And there was the mother son dance.

So Saturday Megan and I brought the littles with us to the 5k.  Lew dropped G at baseball.  We went straight to the game and cheered them on.  They had a tough loss but the kids had some great plays and hits.  G really wants to get his first hit in a game, but it hasn't happened yet.  Baseball is a really tough skill and he's doing so much better.  He had some great fielding plays and caught a ball at pitcher that he then dropped (surprised he caught it) and he got an out at first.  So he was proud of himself even without the hit.

After this it was home to fold laundry and change into soccer gear.  And for me to coach D's team.

David scored his first goal in soccer.  He is tough and gets in there.  He doesn't want to play at the start (it's still pretty hot here).  The first game he played I had to threaten to take away iPad time.  Since then I have said I only need you to try.  Just try for two quarters, and we'll be good.

And he's done great.  His team wins.  We have some kids that are really aggressive and fast.

D's game was at 1.  G's game was at 2.  At a different field.  He was stressed (I stupidly read the email out loud when I realized we were at a different field.  Mom fail).  His dad was rushing back to town from Arlington (across, across, across town).  He ran in, threw me his keys and he finished coaching D's game and I raced to make it to Grady's game.

It was warm, by this time G was already tired.

And if D's team is aggressive G's team is defensive. We have two or three aggressive kids but then we have four or five that are more passive.  And this difference in attitude makes all the difference, IMO.  G isn't going to attack the ball.  But he'll keep you from scoring.  He'll kick it if it comes to him, but he doesn't attack it and force plays.  There are three or four other kids in that same boat.  Against aggressive teams ... well you can guess.

And it used to be fun.  But this past game a kid on the other team was talking trash to G.  And it really hurt his feelings.  Not a thing I can do.  It's going to happen.  But he about cried when we got in the car.  But.  Sports.

Not my favorite.  But this is how we learn.

So after this we go home.

And get ready for the dance.

My over scheduled boys were not thrilled.  And D had been up since 5:45 for the balloon festival and no nap.  We had a good 15min of good time at the dance.  But then it was just overwhelming and loud and I called it and said we'd leave.  They were spent.  And it's really not their favorite.  But they go because I love it.

And then the next morning we got up before the sun and went to the balloon festival again and me and Megan ran our 1/2.  The kids watched the balloons inflate and then went to get pancakes and then  picked us up 2.5hrs later when we were done.

It was a good half.  I got close to a PR but it came in about the same as my first.  My first may have been thirty seconds faster.  But considering how I took the entire month of August off of running due to illness (kids and mine) and I am on a limited running schedule because of kids and my husbands travel ... that's pretty good I think.

I mean really we just wanted to finish under 3hrs.  We didn't know what the heat would do and it was not as hot as we had expected so that was nice.  I had heard horrible things about this race but it really was a great route and I enjoyed the race all together.  Good run.

My legs hurt today.  But oh well.

Next Weekend is no better.  We have a wedding and the boys have three games.  I have to coach D's game and then get ready, catch a flight, go to a wedding, and fly back the next day.  And Lewis will be in Houston all week as a result.

Busy weeks single parenting.  Busy weekends.
