Sometimes things don't go well. Sometimes, things just stink. I can say that with a few exceptions most of our experiences are good. Are not bad.
But sometimes things just stink and are awful.
I was supposed to be in Kentucky, doing a few state tour and visiting lots of family and showing the kids manatees and hippos. See my nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, cousins, mother and sister.
But after 15 hours in the car across two days, we arrived in Louisville and James was sick. The next morning early it was discovered he had hand, foot, and mouth. And after several minutes (I know, not hours, but minutes) it was decided that I couldn't stay. I had to pack up and start the very long ride back home. The kids were already exposed. Julia for sure was highly at risk for getting it.
So why leave?
Well one - when you have sick kids do you want house guests? No not usually. Two - when you are sick do you want to be 15hrs from your bed and comforts of home? No not usually.
And three.
We have a big trip coming up. And if there was a chance I could avoid getting it or, get it and get over it by the time the trip came, well I had to do it.
Plus Lewis said it was irresponsible to have our kids in a household where there was illness that we knew of. It wasn't fair to them. Even if I did want to stay.
So I drove for two more days, alone, and got home late Thursday afternoon.
So all of that - did not go well.
And now. Well Julia spiked a fever yesterday and it wasn't come below 100 since. She is breaking out and she was up every hour last night complaining that her throat hurt. The boys - so far - are symptom free. But that doesn't mean much. You can carry the illness and be contagious for six days before you get it. Not to mention weeks after your symptoms clear up.
Such fun, no?
I am hopeful they will be better by next Tuesday if not much before. I am hopeful.
But some things just stink. Being home bound. The boys getting yelled at for putting their hands in their mouths. For trying to kiss sister. For spraying her with the water hose. Covering Julia in oils to try to lessen some of the sores. Popsicles. Endless movies of her choice that don't involve Batman, documentaries, or Chris and Martin.
So she probably thinks this is the best thing ever.
