The Long Weekend
We stayed close to home. Grady had a four day weekend because of a "bad weather make-up day" that we didn't need this year. So Friday I took the kids to Legoland, which is something I had promised to do over spring break, but did not accomplish.
It was fun while we were there. But for reasons I don't understand D is having a hard time transitioning between events / activities again so he had a meltdown when we left. Probably related to his food intake or something but it's happening more and more frequently.
After food and naps were procured we had water balloon fight in the backyard for the first time this weekend. Then baths, pajamas, I may have let them play video games. Bed. Saturday was lazy for the most part. Then we went to a friends house to swim and BBQ. Julia is a fish but the water was cold. Then I introduced her to the hot tub. Happiness ensued.
Sunday we made it to church where the youngest did not cry upon being dropped off and happiness was had all throughout the land. She was weepy when she figured out I wasn't there (after initial curiosity about toys passed) but the teachers said she did okay. She found herself an adult to make her slave (her M.O.) and was better. When I picked up she wasn't being held. Which is huge.
I needed that win on that particular day because with the end of the school year I'm thinking about next school year and how it's time for her to go to school.
And I'm not thrilled about it.
I am not sure how she's going to handle it and I definitely won't handle it well if she hates it and cries the whole time. So her going to Sunday school happily and doing well was nice for my well-being.
I am super excited to have all my kids home this summer. I know that they'll bug me and it'll be super hard to get my training runs in but I enjoy them being around. We made a list of what we wanted to get done. Some of them are easy (play video games) some of them are easy because I've already planned them (Boston, Wyoming). Actually I can't think of any that are "hard" except that I'll run out of time.
As I sit here I saw yet another post bemoaning having to have all the kids home all summer. I'm not perfect or patient or anything so I'm sure I'll have my own "when does school start again?" moments ... but from where I sit now the family being together and (mostly) on one schedule for three months seems pretty awesome.
But I'm the rare breed; I like being home. And now we can walk to Sprouts, or for pizza or coffee or ice cream. We can walk to the pool. We can skip baths and watch movies and play video games. We can do a lot or we can do nothing. All together. Yippee.
