Halloween-ings

Halloween is one of those holidays that's more about individuals and friends than it is about family.  At least for us.  It's not a travel holiday, there's no time off associated with it.  So it's about friends, et al, and not so much about family.

And we're coming off a big family week (brother's wedding) so a week of frivolity was probably a good thing.

Running with the rising sun.  Next week when we go back to the vastly preferable standard time I don't think I'll have this opportunity as often.

To the activities ...

Fall festival day at school!  Boys costumes are all about the accessories.  As such he wanted to be Darth Vader for halloween (light saber).  But swords aren't allowed at school.  So light up wings are a close second best.

He loved the petting zoo.  He loved the baby animals.

Loved loved the baby animals.

And he loves the carnival games.

His class.

More baby animals.

Later that day sweetie face got invited to a Halloween dance class from one of her friends that does dance every week.  It didn't go that awesome.  It's not mommy and me it's solo and as soon as I left the room she flipped her lid and wouldn't calm down.  I'm not married to her dancing so we left the class so the other kids could have fun sans screaming.  Soccer is more her thing anyway.

I don't remember what we did Friday.  But Saturday we were crazy with soccer, out to lunch, friends house for Tech football game (we won!) and then dinner out (I hate when we eat out two meals a day) and home for yet another late bedtime.

Sunday I ran 3.5m and then came home and painted pumpkins and missed church  and I feel bad about that too.  Sunday evening we carved pumpkins.

The kids are less than helpful at carving pumpkins.  G hates touching the gunky insides (though he did help some) and everybody wants to use the knife and it's an exorcise in how to avoid ER stitches. But we got two pumpkins carved, if one of them got a few of his teeth knocked out and his eyeball part accidentally cut.

And baby boooooo! camp workout on Monday.  D - inexplicably - decided he didn't want to wear his costume on Monday.  It was greatness.  Nope.  No Darth Vader.  Remember what I said about accessories?  Well over the weekend his light saber broke and he lost all interest.  Insert eye roll.

So we talked through the other costumes we have around the house. No. No. No.  Well buddy you have to wear a costume to go trick or treating.

Thankfully the dollar bin area of Target still had the cheap light sabers.

So this is the costume he was going to wear (well it had black pants but it was like 90 degrees).  But he hated the cloak.  And the mask.  And pretty much everything except the light saber.

He's cute though.

Brother was a Pokemon trainer.  The "best" pokemon trainer.  Ash.  His costume was easy.  Track suit (easily wearable year round) and a red hat with a blue poke ball on it.  And a painted pumpkin to look like a poke ball.  And of course pikachu.

Sister wore a Snow White dress.

We stopped by our old friends house briefly before we went to trick or treat our neighborhood!

This was how D ran around.  With the only part of his costume he cared about.

G's buddy from school (and his brother).  G was the pokemon trainer and his friend was a Bulbasor (a pokemon).  His brother was an Evee. G took off when we caught up with his friends.  Took off.  Friends dad ran to catch up with the boys and we didn't even trick or treat with him for two streets.  A bunch of the first graders were in a group and the parents were just following that mob.  It was bitter sweet.  I wanted to see him doing stuff but it was cool that he was independent and has such a good group of friends.  Lewis, Julia, D and I did a few houses and then we skipped a street to catch up. (Which is when I got the above picture).

Julia only did maybe four houses.  Her brothers were sweeties and helped her (though they did have to be asked to do it).  She loved getting candy.

A successful halloween with friends fun and candy.  Till next year.
