Scouts

We made the decision to join cub scouts.  He is very excited.  The idea of earning badges and uniforms and secret hand shakes and camp outs and pinewood derby's and boat regatta's and learning to tie sailor knots, build fires, cut down trees, and learn all other things boy appeals to him greatly.

We read the introduction to G (which included pretty much everything I just wrote) and he was like "yeah! let's do that!

After he made his choice we told him his dad was a cub scout, too.  Nothing cooler than being just like your hero.  And it's something he and Lew can do together.  And that's the most important thing.

If J weren't still young and needing such a schedule and attention, I'd have volunteered to be a den leader.  But I didn't feel it was fair to her.  Plus, we already coach soccer.

There are many fun things to be learned.  Lots of badges (belt loops) to earn.  Ceremonies to participate in.  Camping trips to go on.  Two big ones with the entire pack, and smaller ones.  We're missing the first big one which is at this amazing camp with archery, bee bee guns and so many amazing things.  I'm sad we're missing it.

But hot air balloons are pretty amazing too.

And we'll do the tasks while we're away so he can stay on track to make Wolf.  Just ask him if he's excited about earning things and advancing.  It's very much right up his alley.
