First Grade

And so it happens that it's time to send my oldest child out into the world again.  First Grade.  He was ready but he was nervous.  Nerves for him show up as quiet, reserved, slow.  He walked with his dad and then he wanted to sit in the stroller.  Then he jumped out and in we went.

He didn't want a hug and he definitely didn't want me lingering.  I feel bad now that I didn't over rule him and give him a squeeze!  But - truth - I'm nervous too!  So everything doesn't always go perfect.

I probably look like a lunatic to his teacher.  I forgot his folder at meet the teacher so we didn't have the home work done.  But I made him do what I assume was in there (all about me and what he did on summer vacation).  But I just come across as a neurotic, space cadet I think.  Dear teacher - I swear I'm mostly normal.  Maybe.  Mostly.

The start of school is really like my first day back at work too.  Gotta get up, lunches, structure, structure.  Get G ready to learn and have a stable environment.  Get the coaching stuff ready for soccer.  Structure. Structure.

I really hope he has a great day today.  That he has fun with friends and learns a lot and eats his lunch and please let this teacher be a good fit.  Please.  Please.  She has a young son so already that's a bonus.  Our last teacher had three girls and it showed.  It was a good year, it went okay.  But I'm really hoping for a more nurturing experience this year.  A teacher that is willing to show affection (not crazy - just like a nice teacher, you know?) to a sweet, growing boy.  Please.

First grade.  Can't get my head around it.
