Life Lately

Last we left you it was the last day of school.  And his dad and I decided that a good report card and a good year of behavior (no signatures in his folder - smiley faces every day), and being a Student of Character in the 3rd 9wks deserved a little positive recognition at home.

This is what he choose and said he wanted.

That same day we had friends over for BBQ and a water balloon fight.

She is walking more.  She has experimented with standing on her own.  She can do it but she's nervous.  She still crawls over to things and stands.  But I've seen her do it when she isn't thinking about it.  She has decided she likes watermelon.  Not as much as D likes watermelon but no one likes watermelon as much as D likes watermelon.

This guy had his first golf camp this week.  It's been a trial and error process.  These sports camps require a lot of gear and as I tell folks - I'm lucky to get everyone out the door on time let alone with everything they need.  The first day with clubs I forgot to label everything (duh) and all the kids have the same clubs so we were short a wedge and had two 7 irons.  We worked it out the next day.  But then the next day I sent him with his dad's water bottle and he couldn't figure it out so he didn't drink anything for 3hrs on the course in the 90 degree heat.  I had words with his coach who hadn't noticed.  It is not her fault.  He is responsible for himself and I am responsible to make sure he knows how to use his equipment.  We did have a talk about asking for help (something we have to practice).  And today went better.  No issues!  Of course last day of camp is tomorrow.

This girl.  She's got a cough today.  Out of no where.  But she's in decent spirits.

He is maturing quite nicely.  We have fewer and fewer emotional meltdowns.  Though we are not at zero.  Not sure we'll ever get to zero.  Teaching him coping is hard for me.  I try.  I need to read a book.

So I used to believe that art couldn't be taught.  This is entirely false.  Like anything else it requires practice, practice, practice.  He has improved so dramatically over the last year I'm amazed.

In the "girls are different" category we have this.  Though it's not really fair because she would probably have liked a bucket to carry her things even better because it would be easier for her to get them in and out.  I handed her this old wristlet and she's enjoyed it.  I heard her asking for her baby the other day.  I didn't go get it because we were busy.  But I'm pretty sure she was either talking about herself (possible) or asking for her doll.

Growing up so fast.

This was at the doctor's office for G's 6yr well.  It was one of the better well visits we've had since he was 18mo.  He has gained great weight and grown many inches.  He's always grown but this was the first year he had solid gains.  He has worked super hard and is now a partner (or at least like, a willing accomplice) on this path.

In the car today we took his buddy home from camp with us so they could play.  When his buddy saw the high backed booster he said to G ... "G you're six.  You're too big for that."  And G corrected him - "I'm not heavy enough though."

And I was proud of him.  He said it without sadness or anything.  Just a fact.  And he's right.  I could cheat because he's close and have him in a booster seat but everyone just focuses on weight and not height and how the straps hit, and he is not ready.  We take too many long trips to not have a high back chair that keeps his posture right and keeps him comfortable if he sleeps.

Overnight they are playing together now.

So from a mom perspective, and taking into account she is only 15mo, the relationships she has with the boys are very different.  She plays with D more than she does G.  She loves tackling both of them.  She loves when she gives them hugs before bed (pictured).  But she laughs with D.  A lot.  Something about him tickles her.

Our good friend from camp.
