Last day of [pre] school!

May - I have decided - is like December with tons of parties, events, school things and requirements. It's crammed with field day, field trips, performances, sign this, be here, send this, keep this, find this, and no-more-homework-please-because-we-are-so-very-done-this!

Today was the last day of school for my second son.  I can't really take in how much he's grown.  I'm trying to send them to school on the last day in the same outfit they wore on the first day, because then I really just get to see the big change.  And for my 3yo - it was a pretty significant difference.  Several inches and just lots of maturity.  The independence of school has increased his vocabulary and his confidence in doing things without his brother.  Participating in soccer was hard for him but he's fought hard because he really, really, really wants that participation trophy.  But I told him - he has to participate in order to get it.  More on that on Thursday.

At school today they played all day and had a picnic outside and did face painting and had overall shenanigans.  He is exhausted.  But we were so blessed by his teacher and friends this year.  You always worry about sending your kids off alone into school and I've been so fortunate with these sweet school that really just loves my kids.  God bless them and all they do.  Truly.

After school when we picked up G I said we would go to the library because G is just about a first grader now and elementary school kids need to participate in the library summer reading program and to do that they need ... a library card.

He was pleased but I don't think he's as pleased I am.  The library is just the best place ever.  And we found the section with early reader non-fiction (his favorite) and he picked out a few of those about animals and butterflies.  Then we found the lego early readers, and he was all in on those too.

We can't sign up for the reading program until next Friday (last day of school) but we're all set to spend our summer keeping up with our new reading skills and escaping the heat in the pretty library.

I can't believe kindergarten is over.  That we will be starting first grade in the fall.  That D will go into a curriculum program and learn more letters, numbers and words.

I was glad when we were saying goodbye to his teachers and directors today that I still have one more.  I don't think I could say goodbye to this sweet school entirely.  They have been with my family for four years now!
