The Grow So Fast

We all say it.  Because it's so true.

They grow.  So. Fast.

When she first came home I agonized; she's never going to let me put her down.  I'm never going to get anything done.  I'm going to be holding her until she goes to college.

When she was sleeping with me I lamented; she's never going to sleep in her own bed.  I'm going to pass out and accidently hurt her.  How am I going to get her out of my bed?  What am I going to do?

When she was waking up every two hours (in her own bed) I cried; I am never going to sleep again!

One would think, having done this three times, one would see the stages and phases and relax a bit.  But sleep deprivation is torture.  And it does weird things to the brain!  And in fairness to me, with her I was much more relaxed.  I did get up with her.  I did not freak out.  And I did function.  I also let her CIO at 4/5mo.  And never for more then 10min but these phases have passed and we're on to new phases.

Separation anxiety.  Teething.  Tummy issues from trying new foods.

This child has turned into a happy, cheerful baby in the span of weeks and when I see her baby pictures now I am amazed.  Her chubby legs and chubby cheeks.  Her wicked strength and her just pleasant disposition.

She never tires of being told she's beautiful.  Seriously.  She just lights up.  Oh you think I'm pretty?  Why thank you!

And she is told she is beautiful at least fifty times an outing.  Her eyes!  Her hair!  She is so striking!

It gets a bit weird for me personally.  Why yes she is pretty.  But she is brilliant!  Can't you see the first woman to walk on Mars sitting before you!

I can't believe how much has changed in such a short span of time.  It seems like just yesterday that we brought her home but at the same time, it feels like she's always been here.  I have a hard time thinking of a time I didn't have three children.  But I know I did it.  It's like, a time before David?  Impossible.  Before Grady?  Never happened.  They have always been the little planets circling around my star (see, it does all revolve around me) and begging for snacks and juice.

I have said this a thousand times but if you told me six years ago I'd have three children I'd have shaken my head and looked at the ground and said, not sure that's in the cards for me.  After struggling to have G I just never thought it would be easy.

And yet ... two little boys came into the office and roar behind me.  "We are gorgosaurus's!" one says.  "Yeah!" says the other.  "We are scary!" He says importantly.  Upstairs their sister is whining, up from her nap.

I could not have predicted this life.  And while oh my gosh by bedtime I am worn out, I wouldn't change any of it for all the world.

They grow so fast.
