Notes on the First Week

These are intemperate.  And knee jerk.  And will probably be looked back on with head shakes.  But here they are.

The school is nice.  Nicer than any school I ever attended.  Mom thinks it's because all the schools I went to were pretty old.  This school was probably built within the last 15 years.  The kinder and first grade kids are in a pod on a far wing of the school, away from the other grades.  I feel like this is good.  They are so young compared to the 10 and 11 year olds.  Such a huge gap there.

The teacher.  The teacher.  I like the teacher.  As a person.  I am not certain she is as nurturing as I want.  I don't know.  Something just seemed off today at popsicles in the park.  I can't put my finger on it.  I heard nothing from her about how G did in class this week.  Nothing.  There are 18 kids in his class.  I feel like that's a healthy number.  But it's possible he's not been high enough on her radar at this stage for her to have anything to say to me.  This is both a positive and a negative.

He's liking it.  Today as we were all freaking out at bedtime (there's been some of that this week) and the were all whining and miserable and I was like okay ENOUGH.  Tell me something you love?  Because Lord help me we're ending this day on a high note.

Police cars.  Police helicopters.  Firemen, fireman helicopters.  What do you love about school? My sticker chart (5yo).  My whale backpack (3yo). What else do you love about school? Playing with friends (5yo). Firemen (3yo)!

And so things ended with smiles.  And that's good.

Because I am beat down.  Getting up at 6 and being the sole shuffler of these kids is exhausting.  Every. Single. Day.  I feel like all I do is wake someone up, remind someone to get dressed, brush teeth, put on shoes.  Eat. Eat. Eat. Take someone to school.  Rush home. Put someone down for a nap. Spend time with David (this part has been pleasant). Wake up baby.  Feed someone.  Eat. Eat. Eat.  Put someone down for a nap.  Hang out with baby. Who's now fussing for a nap.  Try to nap the baby before I have to go to pick up.  Fail. Fail. Fail.  Wake up D to go to pick up.  Pick up.  Go home.  Get snack for 5yo angry school kid.  He feels better.  Feed fussy almost inconsolable wants a nap baby.  Put her down.  Make dinner.  Eat. Eat. Eat.  Bath. Books. Bed.

And that's because that is ALL I DO.  You throw in the words "throw in laundry. move laundry. fold laundry. empty dishwasher. load dishwasher. run dishwasher." and thats this week.
