Potty Training: The Beginning (Again)
I've done this all before. You'd think that would make it easier. It almost makes it harder.
He's been going #2 in the potty for a few weeks / months. That's no problem. His timing isn't perfect but he's 100% convinced that stuff goes in the potty because no good having it in the pants.
So win there.
#1? Yeah he's okay with that going in his pants. Want to use the potty? Nope. Where do pee-pee's go? [Big smile] I dunno. Yes you do, where do they go? I dunno. [Remember I'm taking to the 2yo and not the 5yo. Fewer words.] Where pee-pee go? Potty? Yes! Pee-pee in the potty!
Day 1 went about like you'd expect. Some pee in the potty, some on the floor. Day 2 went about like you'd expect, some in the potty, some on the floor, some in our pants. Day 3 is about the same.
The only difference is his attitude. And I can't really remember how G was in that area. But by day 3 D is like to hell with this.
D thinks the world is full of choices; and if he turns one down he can choose something else. Well, potty training isn't one of those things. The waste goes into the potty. Period. No other choice.
He does not see it this way. It's creating tension.
I do not remember this from last time, though I vaguely know that it wasn't a smooth road with G. Especially certain aspects. I think I've blocked out the messy parts, in truth.
And what makes this harder is I know he'll get it. I'm just like gah, just get it already so I can stop wiping up yuck! Not very logical. He has to go through this process to get there.
I know my mother says "don't start and stop!" because she did it with me and it went badly. But, looking at that case study ... I eventually learned, so it really couldn't have been that bad.
That is not my excuse to start and stop, but we are traveling the next six weeks and he will be rocking the pull ups.
