my newest preschooler

In two months this little man will start pre school.  In two months his journey into independence really begins as he starts to have more and more experiences away from his family and cultivates new independence and friendships.

Never has a child been more ready.

Today when we went to drop off shot records and checks and paperwork, he was like, "bye mom!"  He stood attentively next to Miss Cheryl, ready for her to usher him back to his classroom for school time fun.

I love so much about this kid.  So very, very much.  Starting with his sweet face.  Which he knows is sweet.  He knows he's handsome.  He gets in trouble, he flashes you a killer smile.  You have to smile back.  Really.  You have to.  It's mandatory.  If you don't smile back you might not have a soul.

And yes, he gets away with a lot.

He is so affectionate and cuddly and loving.  He has the best laugh.  It's amazing.  It just makes your heart happy to hear it.

He is cunning.  That's the best way to put it.  Mom says "don't jump off the chair."  Next thing you know he's rolling off the chair.  Mom says don't jump on the bed.  Next thing you know he's jumping off the bed.  He's a tricky guy.  He knows what I mean - I think - but lots of time just smiles at me with a "yeah but I'm not doing that crap" mom look on his face.

One of his best features is his admiration and love for his brother, and his affection for his sister.  He is a very sweet, affectionate kid.

A fun game ...

D: [with an impish grin] "Are you a good guy, or a bad guy?"

M: "I'm a good guy! Are you a good guy or a bad guy?"

D: [proud smile] "I'm a fireman!"

My boys are obsessed with heroes.  Be they police officers or imaginary.  They want to fight crime and rid the world of bank robbers, which is the only crime they think exists.  David loves all that crap.

He is something.  He's difficult and ornery and so difficult to parent sometimes.  His motivators are emerging so it's a work in progress.  So. Many. Time. Outs.

I can't believe school is coming for him.  I really can't.  My big, bad three year old (almost).  Love him.
