When I got married I carried her handkerchief in my bouquet. It was my something new (to me), something old, something borrowed, and something blue. It was perfect.
Right before Megan got married she sent me a letter with the story of where that handkerchief came from.
There's also a letter to me talking about how the fourth of July went. How Dennis's cousins came for dinner at the unit. How they had fireworks out at Carolyn's house. Plans for traveling to Megan's wedding in "Dayton" (it was actually in Columbus).
If you zoom in you can read her "story of the handkerchief". She got it at a shower they threw for her and her mother when they left Oklahoma and moved to McCune. She was 16.
In recent years (the last two) all the stories about Grandmother were sad. Filled with anxiety. She couldn't move well, couldn't get around. Lost her memories. Didn't know who anyone except Carolyn and my mother were. And sometimes that was suspect.
There were a lot of good memories. From before. It is true she spent the last ten years grieving my grandfather. But as my mother said the other day ... she was always hoping tomorrow would be better. Tomorrow she'd have more strength. Tomorrow she'd feel more whole.
I truly, truly, truly hope tomorrow has come for her. And now she has more strength. Now she feels better. Now she is more whole.
