D: It's the trash truck! I gotta get him!
You can't get him he's a trash truck.
D: No. He's the bad guy!
The bad guy? What'd he do?
D: He's stealing the trash! Get him!
And this morning an octopus was chasing our car on the way to prek. Love his brain.

Just one of the many moments that I enjoy with D.  He is super imaginative.  His brother is pretty literal.  If he says he sees an airplane he sees an airplane.  But D says he sees flying sharks, and octopus, and fire truck police cars (sometimes those are real).  It is a fun difference.

At this moment I am sitting in the garage in my car, doors open, garage open, so that sweetie face can finish up her car nap.  The things you find yourself doing.

It was a pleasant Memorial Day weekend, if not a soggy one.  We had friends over for dinner and I didn't get the camera out because sometimes it's just distracting.

I am asked if the baby is on a schedule a lot.  I don't know why people ask this.  Do I have a reputation for putting babies on a schedule?  Because I didn't put G on a schedule till 6 months.  D was about then, but closer to 8mo really.  There is just no good way to schedule multiple children.  I mean I guess we have a semblance of a sleep schedule.  Wake up about 7, fall in and out of sleep all morning, nap around 1230/1 when the boys rest, another afternoon nap somewhere, and then bedtime is about 9, though she's ready to move that sooner.

Another update post is coming so I'll save the rest for that ... but why am I getting schedule questions?  I'm not sure.  I feed on demand.  This means that if baby fusses at me, generally I try to feed her.  Sometimes she'll eat sometimes she won't, but I don't have a "good" feeding schedule.

I mean crime in Itly' she's barely 3mo old.

Lewis is forever on KickStarter.  I have to remind him how many of those things he's backed because it's way way too easy to be all "oh this is awesome!" and hit support with a $20 donation and then before you know it you've spent all the rag money.

Well yesterday or the day before he found one by these two lovely ladies who have created building blocks / tinker toys / whatever building material that they are marketing towards girls.  Just girls.  And Lewis thought they were awesome.

I have not had a daughter long enough to have a formal opinion on these things.  I know my own opinion as it pertains to me ... you don't have to make shit pink in order for girls to think cool concepts are cool.

And that's my take.  However.  If pink radio parts gets J interested in how a radio is built ... there might be something to that annoying garbage.  I don't have a permanent stance.

But I did tell Lewis to look for STEM products that are just cool not things that are marketed to a particular gender.  Because STEM is for everyone not just girls and I am increasingly saddened by the statistics that show girls are doing better in college and getting more jobs out of college than our boys are.  In fact almost all academia is skewing in favor of females.  As the mother of two boys ... it hurts a little to think society views my daughter as somehow superior or worth more than my boys.

I then remind myself that men still go on to do amazing things regardless what those stats say.  They still fly planes they still fly rockets into space.  They still build buildings and chase big dreams.

I want that for all three of my kids.

But I know for my daughter other desires will come into play.  And maybe even the boys too.  A nice job that lets them be home at 5, to have dinner with their spouse.  Or a job that only works 12wks a year, and allows for travel.  All dreams aren't about career after all.  And I don't want to fall into the trap of placing value on a person based on what they "do."
