Grady at One Month

Because it is the way of these things, I have no idea how much G weighed at a month, who is the closest to her stats.  D had gained over 2lbs by this age, give or take, because he did benefit from some additional days that J here didn't have.  And she's a girl.

Not that she isn't eating round the clock.  Because she is.  Every two to three hours.  She's got pretty good head control, for a four week old.  She sleeps like a baby; wakes up a lot screaming.  Which is okay.  She's just trying to grow.  D was doing a TON better at this same stage (four and five hours at night) but he was also bigger.

She is garbage at sleeping in the bassinet.  She will only sleep 30min at worst and two hours at best in it.  So on those days that I just have to sleep I'm letting her sleep with me.  If she sleeps with me, she'll sleep four hours.  You can see the appeal.

She flat refuses to sleep on her back.  I can only get her to sleep in the cradle on her side.  She will not sleep in the swing at all.  Sometimes I can get her to sleep in the rock n play.  But she's a "HOLD ME!" type baby.

Part of me thinks its her size.  I have vague recollections of G being this way.  But honestly I have no memory of early days with G.  I know it was hard.  I know he liked being swaddled and this child can't seem to be comfortable unless a person is holding her.  But again, I have vague notions of G being this way ... and I made it through that too.

I also think she'd do better on her tummy.  But we know what the world thinks about that.

I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing until she's over the 10lb mark and then maybe - maybe - I'll reassess.

We're making it, so far, but it is dicey.  Especially on days - like today - that I can't nap or rest.  Today G had his Easter party / performance at school and J had a billi recheck at the hospital so no one napped and I've been go-go-go going all day long.  Bedtime will be a hot mess.

As a whole, I believe the family is adjusting well.  The boys love her and call her "baby sister" so we're working on the whole name thing.  G has adjusted the best, D is doing better.  He's not jealous of her - thankfully - but he seems the least certain of his place with me and with the family.  So I'm attempting to give him extra attention when I can.

G will need additional attention too but for now he seems content with his biggest brother role and having tasks to help mommy that he did not have before.  These include the glorious job of throwing away baby girls diapers, bringing mommy blankets for her, and holding her before he goes to bed (his favorite).

One month down.  11 more to go.  I don't wish away her infancy and yet ... I sort of do.  ;)  I'll have my pictures to remember it by.
