The way things were ... or ... How they should be
On Monday we went to boot camp. Which starts at nine. We were then doing our playdate / mall thing till lunch. Rush home, lunch, nap (I don't think anyone slept) then afternoon is just chaos because everyone is tired and it's just a rough time of day for small folks. After bedtime I had friends over to watch the ridiculousness that is The Bachelor. Why do I do this? For the socialization. The girls love it. I sit in agony. Especially now since I can't drink. And I lament what this show says about the social culture of our times. For the record I think my friends feel the same about the "reality" of the show and enjoy the train wreck of it all. Thank God their's not a Nielson box at my house.
Tuesday is a school day. I can't remember what D and I did, but we did something. And he didn't nap, and G never naps at school, so that afternoon is also a blur of fatigue. After bedtime the babysitter arrived and I went to book club. Also note, I had been up since 4am.
Wednesday was a MOPS day. Which was a good day. D did great at MOPPETS for the second time in a row and only cried when I dropped him off. They laughed at his whiney tears when he saw me for pick up and said he was such a faker, and that he had a great time. Which is such a huge improvement over where he was; crying the entire time and earning himself quite the reputation in that pod (hallway of classrooms).
Thursday was a school day. I had a doctors appointment. And despite the intense BH of the day before, baby is safely ensconced and tight as a drum. Which is good news. So I can encourage some of these contractions to a certain extent, trying to help things along. And drink more water. Which is docs advice for all things. After school we ran errands to make sure all things were ready for when Daddy came home. And to pick up my prescription. Dinner. Bath. Bedtime. The baby sitter came over after bedtime and I went out to my dinner with my MOPS table. Which was fun. But the baby sitter text at 9 to say I had a fire alarm going off so I jumped up without explanation and rushed out the door. It was a bad unit (I was pretty sure that was all it was - but baby sitter is a teenager and was overwhelmed). Got that down and silenced. The world turns on.
Bringing us to today ... Friday. A quiet day. Daddy came home from his ski vacation well after midnight, but left before the sun for the office. I'm pretty sure we spoke. But I can't be sure. The boys were adamant today that we make pancakes and cookies. So we did.
I like to think I'm making clever little chefs. That through some part of this process they are learning cooking skills that they will take with them. When they leave me! Sob. It's hard to consider but that is my task; raise 'em up, send 'em out.
It's a good 20/30 minutes in the kitchen. With the added benefit (for G) of high calorie sweets!
A year ago this wouldn't have been possible. In prior cookie / brownie / cake making adventures getting him to try the batter was a full on "NO." Getting him to eat the finished product was hard enough. And it seemed silly to fight so hard to get him to eat something that, in reality, could potentially make him sick (not that I've ever gotten salmonella from batter and I can not COUNT how many times I've eaten the stuff).
But now he loves it, and it's his one of his favorite parts. I do actually have to make the cookies (truly hard for me) because he likes that the best. And it's better for my diet probably. Though all the holiday sweets have not helped me watch my weight gain.
After that there were games on the iPad and wrestling and brother snuggles and some Dinosaur Train. I got dinner going and it's simmering along nicely...
We've just been home; chasing each other with police handcuffs (thank you preschool - what were you thinking??) eating peanut butter and left over pizza (not together) and chasing each other with Cars and crashing and being.
So far ... a good day.
