Casualty of Maturing
The bedroom sharing has gone well. D seems to actually prefer it. Which I knew would be the case. He does not like being left alone. He wants to be with G all the time. He is his other half.
So room sharing has been fine. No tears. No issues. Naptime has suffered but when they are really tired, they will sleep. Today G was wiped out and he slept, and D was awake the whole time just kind of watching him, kicking walls, talking. G slept through it all.
But a casualty of the room sharing is that private cuddle time with me and D, just before bed. It's gone. The last time I rocked him before bed was the last weekend in October. I still lay down with him and when he wakes up crying (has happened) I go in there and lay with him. But it's not the same. It's more big boy, less baby.
I planned it this way. I wanted him to be used to being more independent by the time February comes around. I didn't want him to feel displaced by the baby, but more displaced by time. Just that it was time.
It doesn't make it easier for mama though.
He is my sweet heart and my cuddler. He still wakes up and often needs to cuddle and be still before he can join the world. But that quiet time for he and I is a thing of the past. One of those "lasts" that you don't really know is a last until weeks later, if you even notice then.
Crazy.
