Pink Glitter

With no further ceremony ...

Okay maybe just a bit more...

Okay that's it. Really.

Turns out, I am going to have a daughter. Can not really wrap my mind around that.

I had said so many carefully worded prayers for a healthy baby, of either gender. All the while, stock pilling evidence that seemed to stack in favor of the fairer sex.  Insane morning sickness (which last until week 16 thanks so much - and still shows up now and again).  A vastly different pregnancy from either of my prior 2.  And a 12wk scan that the expert in his field said pointed to a girl.

But in my head, I have gone back and forth.

I will love a daughter.  Oh the things I get to do that were somewhat off the table before.  Don't get me wrong I don't buy 100% into gender stereotypes.  My boys watch Tangled and Princess and the Frog with me when I want them too.  We color with the pink crayons.  We have dolls.  Not baby dolls because seriously they've no interest, but all the dolls from Toy Story.

But that's just it, isn't it?  They have no interest.  The story books with female heroines?  They bore them.  The princess thing?  Yeah no interest.  Unless there's a dragon.  They would care then.  G was never big into coloring, until about last year.  Art project are good, but only for about 10 minutes.  Then it's "Hey? Can I drive my truck through the paint?"

I have no doubt that a daughter in this house is going to be so much the same.  With subtle differences.  I have no idea what to expect.  I was a girl, but not so girly.  I played with make up but mostly I played with legos.  I liked princess movies but I really liked comic book / super hero movies.  I'm a good boy mom because I know a lot about Star Wars and Spiderman and Thor and Wolverine.  I'm a good boy mom because I know about football and sports and we do those kinds of things.

I have no doubt that a girl under my care will be much the same.

But oh L.M. Montgomery!  And Avi! And all the books I get to share (with all of them really, but a girl I think may like them more) and the music and the Disney fun.  I plan on exposing all of my kids to musicals and theater and ballet and opera.  And who knows who will be the bigger fan of those things!

But now I'll be Grandmother through the mom, which I know shouldn't be different, but I know that it is.  The mother of the bride ... and Lewis will do all the Father Daughter things.  My heart swells ...

But the clothes and the decorations and the PINK ... yeah that's kind of overwhelming and horrifying.  I believe in primary colors.

With maybe some pink glitter.

This is really good news, for me as well as for you. Because if my 80% daughter turns out to be a boy I can send you all her clothes that I shouldn't have bought but did and probably won't be able to return once she's actually born. (They're cute, I promise. Touches of pink, but not "Pepto Bismol vomited all over the closet".)

;)

But, more seriously, congratulations!
