First Day of School

To say that we love this child, would just not cover it.  He is a light in the universe.  I swear if the world went dark there would be a light around his bed, a glow.  He is all happiness and light and joy.  He is smart and witty and eager and quick.  He's also crabby, giving up naps, petulant, and ornery, as he tests limits and expands his freedoms.

No more does he have to hold hands in the parking lots.  He's old enough, he can walk beside mom.  Sometimes he even holds brother's hand, to help mama.  He loads the grocery cart.  He buckles himself in and out of the car.  He feeds the dog.  Puts his dishes in the sink.  Gets himself ready for naptime (you know that time he doesn't sleep).  He gets himself dressed in the morning.

He's a hop skip and a jump away from more and more independence.  It's the way of things.

Today is the first day of 4s.  Preschool 4.  He seemed like he might have been nervous?  I don't know he's changing a bit and it's not presenting as honestly as it had in the past.  He's developing pride.  Not needing mom so much in public?  I'm not sure.  It's a glimpse of it.  Not full blown.  But I need to be aware.  Pride is precious, and I don't want to hurt his needlessly.

It's amazing.  4.  I know that he's ready and smart and will do well.  I hope his first day was great.
