Summertime … and the Livings Easy

When I started staying home with G I thought I was going crazy.  Me and the small baby, no tasks except housework and baby feeding, no friends to meet for coffee … oh how I wish I had had the network I have now, back then.

It got easier when he was older.  He was more interactive.  More interesting.  The toys got cooler (who likes the rings and balls? not me).  When he started talking … well then staying home was pretty great.  By then I was pregnant with his brother so there were other trials (exhaustion!) but he was my buddy.  What do you want to do today G?  Play trains!  Okay then.

When his brother came … well that first seven months was all cloudy with his daddy's heart surgery.  D, for his part, was a model baby.  He slept 4-5hrs at a time, straight from the hospital.  He'd eat and go right back to sleep.  He napped easily, only fussed when hungry.  As long as he got his required cuddles and food, he was great.

By 8mo he was sleeping through the night, 7-7, more or less.  By 12mo that was consistent.  By 18mo he was more interesting.  And recently, with vocabulary, he's more fun.

The boys interact and talk to each other.  They play trains together.  They eat their meals at the same time (seriously, you don't get it, but this is huge).  They nap at the same time (also, so, so, so huge) and it doesn't make D cranky.  I dropped his second nap pretty close to 12mo because it was working for no one.

So now, as I think about my career as a SAHM, it's gotten so much better.  Museums and school, camps and soccer, playgrounds and parks, book stores and story time.  I still have the house work and all the rest but for some reason, maybe because I'm not post partum, it's not overwhelming.  And this summer sometimes I just let it go.

Naptime has been easy breazy lately, with G not napping but just playing in his room.  Today I told him to read a few books in his bed.  He fell asleep laying on top of Eddie and Dog, his current favorite from the library.  Warms my heart.
