Raising Engineers

There is an awesome little discovery center in our town that I have never been to.  I have a four year old so I feel like I've been cheated by the 'rents that knew about this place and didn't tell me!  Why drive down to Dallas for the awesome big museum when this one is five minutes from home and has as much hands on fun?

I had no idea about this, but they do story time on Fridays at 10:30 and we just happened to pick today to go visit for the first time.  It was great.  They did toddler songs first (get the wiggles out) and then read a story and did a craft.  One downer?  The woman reading the books picked all girls to help her out.  My good boy sat there patiently with his hand up, not talking, waiting to be called on, and all the girls around him were selected.  Sometimes that's going to happen.  But combined with …

And they have this great program this summer for kids to encourage STEM … Science with Princesses.

Can I get a collective W.T.F.

I had a whole rant going but I am just going to stop.  And be grateful that I have common sense.  But for the record, we don't have to make everything pink in order for girls to want to participate.  It's just insulting.  And truth … they could have called it Fairy Tale Science and been more inclusive.

The boys had a fabulous time.  They have summer camps here all summer and G is doing two of them. The first one is next week and they are going to learn about robots.  I really think he'll have a lot of fun.

I'm trying to do a lot of fun and educational-ish things this summer.  We're participating in the Mayors Reading Challenge and library story times and then the Science Center.  I have a long list of summer activities and this crosses at least one off the list.
