Food Therapy

So on Tuesday we went in with our pretty food chart (my idea - kids love stickers - it's not rocket science I don't want a medal, but it was my idea).  At home he was very excited to show Miss K but when we got there he just said, what are we going to try today?

So I showed her, and he beamed.  She looked at it and said, He's cured.  And laughed.  We all laughed.

I think he's a bright spot in her life too.

I would imagine, and based on what I've seen I know I'm right, that the majority of the kids she sees for food therapy are pretty extreme cases.  G tube cases.  Kids that they are trying to get to take formula from a straw, instead of straight into their bellies.

Those kids it takes years, and some of them never do get passed formula to foods.

So I would imagine, that G, who has responded to her extremely well, is very gratifying.  To hear our story, he ate about ten things, and in the span of a little over a month, he's tried ten new things, because she showed him how.

So while I know that it's been a God send for us, and truly feels like a miracle, I think it must be fulfilling something for her too.  Maybe reaffirming what she does?  I don't know.  She loves seeing him.  I imagine that on a day full of hard cases, maybe seeing G who has no behavioral issues, is a breath of fresh air.

We've been reduced to once a week.  I'd bet we go two more times and we're done.  I am scared to stop almost, because he is responding so well to the whole idea of trying a new food at therapy.  The problem now becomes my lack of imagination, and thinking up new foods for him to try!

Oh I just thought of a good one.  I wonder if he'd like avocado now.  He did as a baby.  Any other good food ideas?  I'm looking for high calorie, high protein, high vitamin.  Which is why I'm thrilled he's eating eggs and at least a little cheese (scared of too much dairy, but he's been fine with the cheese he's had so far).  And I'm thrilled he's eating vegetables.  And he's eaten his lunch twice at school this month.  And today he ate a whole sandwhich, not just one half.

It's all very good.
