Camping

We had done this once before probably about this same time last year.  D wasn't a year old yet and G was three, I do remember that much.  Our good friends have property on Lake Ray Hubbard and last year the boys just pitched tents down on the bank of the lake and the ladies and babies went home after dark.

This year, there's a house there, so the boys pitched tents in the yard, the ladies and the babies stayed in the house!

To say that camping with his daddy makes him happy would be the understatement of the year.  He looked forward to it ever since we told him (last week) and he talked about last years camping trip pretty regularly the past 365 days.  Sleeping in a tent with his daddy is a serious highlight.  Lewis told me that last night G required that Daddy be within arms reach or touching him, all night long.

Awww.

They have this beautiful property that they just finished building on, with a pool and a covered patio with outdoor kitchen (I know, won the lottery of friends, right?).  It was a great place to hang.

And oh the flashlight tag and the smores and the pool time and the hotdogs (which he ate! he ate a turkey hot dog!) and the juice boxes and the toys and the glow sticks.  The kids OD'd on fun.  Bedtime was somewhere after 10pm when the moms (who had left long before this point last year and therefore were not involved in anyway, last time) had had enough of the chaos and said Dads … get those boys (the older kids who slept in tents are all boys, the littles are two of each) to bed!

At one point one dad came up to the pool area triumphant, after about ten minutes of attempted bedtime, boasting how awesome his success was.  In my mind I was counting … and sure enough, sixty seconds later 5yo walked up asking for something.

Fun was had by all.  Naps were very, very, very early this fine Saturday.

I highly recommend camping.
