On the way out to lunch today, we made a last minute change in our destination.  Instead of our regular Mexican food restaurant, we'd go further south to a different Mexican food restaurant.

You would have thought we asked G to give a kidney to a stranger.

Nooooooo.  I hate the Mexican food restaurant that's further south!  I want to go to the regular Mexican food restaurant!  They don't have tortilla's at the Mexican food restaurant that's further south!

On and on, without logic.  It was 12:30, so well past his usual food intake time, and close to naptime and he had gotten up earlier.  The perfect storm for a 3 (though almost 4) year old.  I mean there were tears.  It was a full on fit.

When Lewis had suggested the change originally, I sort of hemmed and hawed and was like, G likes the other one better, and was going to push for it.  But then the fit happened.  I don't give in to fits on principle.  So now, even if the wait for the trendier more popular place was 45minutes, we were going there or somewhere else because no WAY was the child getting to go to the regular place.

We pull in.  He's still all teary.

Mom I hate it here they won't have candy!

Probably the real draw of the regular place, they have a candy bowl in the breeze way that he can reach and he gets candy for everyone.  But oh, look at this!  It has a bright red door with birds!  And look at the multi colored stream of fish across the cieling!  And what's this?  Is this a candy dish!  G!  Look!

We put our name on the list and G is looking at the floor (paw prints and fish on the floor) and we decide to wait on the patio for the 15min.  Out on the patio it's empty and enclosed and there's birds on the cieling and rocks!

"Mom!  I told you the Mexican food place further south was magical!"  Complete with flippant hand swat at my thigh.

In the span of like 90 seconds.  Mom I hate this place!  to Mom I told you this place was amazing!

Lewis and I both looked at him, taken back and Lewis says, "oh you told us that, did you?"  It was so funny.  Tantrum in the car completely forgotten.  We had a nice time.  They even have chicken on their menu and kids get a popsicle for dessert for free.  So it was a win and maybe it should be the regular place.
