14 Months

Look at that.  14 months.  I sat down to write an update this peaceful nap time while I watch Reign on the CW which is the most bogus and horribly inaccurate period drama I've ever seen in my life but something about Adelaide has me watching.  Seriously - the clothes??  The names?  It's Mary and Frances but her ladies in waiting? Lola, Kenna, Greer and Aylee?!?  In real life, Mary's ladies (in France) were all named … wait for it … Mary.  I guess CW thought that wasn't dramatic enough.

Anyway I sat down to write some things down I want to remember and - look at that! - it's his 14 month anniversary.

I am still weaning.  Quit judging.  It's one feeding a day and it's non existent.  In fact I plan to drop it this week.  Why did I keep it?  Well he was sick, and then he was getting better, and then he wasn't.  Now he's getting better and it doesn't seem to be adding anything.  Also, he's taking a solid amount of ounces from a cup.  Finally.

He is sleeping 11 to 12 hours at night.  Praise God.

Naps are less good.  He is in that wonderful transition period where he can't sleep twice any more but he can't make it past 11 in a good mood unless heavily distracted and he's sleeping 90 minutes at a time when he really needs a solid 2 hours to make it through the day.  12 - 2.

Which works for G (and mommy) quite well.  When it happens.  But it doesn't often.

Today before nap time while we waited for G to finish his business, Chalupa and I were reading The Hungry Catapiller puppet book (a much beloved favorite of the 6-15mo set).  And he just giggles because the puppet eats all the fruit but today, he grabbed a corner of the book and moved his head in that cute way of babes and looked behind it to see what was making the puppet move.  He saw my hand and he smiled.

He is charming.  He loves to play and he's become a picky eater but he still eats.  In the last day or two he's trying to walk more.  It is good to see him showing more interest because for the past month or so he had very little.

He is talk talk talking.  It's amazing.  I remember this stage being the start of really loving hanging out with the kids because they give so much back in the interactions and it's definitely true second time around.  Mama, daddy, G, doggy, mavvy, more, choo choo … and he babbles and "talks" to his brother and G looks at me and says, "mommy I don't know what he said."  It's hillarious.

Speaking of G … he says wonderful (and awful) things now.  Mommy be nice!  G you need to make good choices so mommy can be nice.  I noticed that yesterday.  Oh did you now?  What are we doing after naptime mommy? What would you like to do?  Mommy!  I asked you!  This one is completely annoying.  And I assume the precursor to "I'm bored."

He asks to see his grandma and grammy all of the time.  When we talk about Christmas he says his gramma and grammy know where the toys are at the store.  I ask him why we celebrate Christmas and he says because we get presents.  Hmm.

He is getting taller everyday.  He is growing so much this year it makes me very, very happy.  He is still very lean.  But he is doing better.  I know I've written that a thousand times.  But I am grateful.

He fights with his brother all. the. time.  Last night he got in trouble in the bathtub (for the second time in as many days) for splashing him in the face.  He was warned.  Multiple times.  Kept doing it.  So he had to get out.  He cries and rages.  Mommy!  BE NICE!  You need to make good choices G.  But I did!  No you did not.

It is hard because he doesn't completely understand.

They are wonderful boys.
