So if you've been with us long, you know that we started potty training somewhere around September 15. It's been a long road. The beginning went great. I could see how people could claim "he was potty trained in a week!" Or at least, I see how they can claim that in hindsight.
But then ... well life happened. He figured out that being wet? Yeah that's not the end of the world. Pooping in the pants? Well he can do that and then go drop that in the potty. See mom? Poop is in the potty. Just like you asked.
Can you say infuriating? The conversations. Oi the conversations. G, the poop can not touch your underwear. We have to keep our underwear clean. This did not make much sense to him.
And then <insert long suffering sigh>, we changed his diet. I fought a battle, got him drinking pediasure every day or at least every other day, and the dairy rocked his world. I felt bad for him. I truly think there's some sensation / development stuff that happens and it wasn't happening for him. He didn't know what was happening until after it happened, hence all the accidents.
It's been a long hard road.
Which brings me to the last few weeks. I don't know if it's getting used to the dairy or if his system is finally, finally, finally maturing. But as long as I offer plenty of opportunities, he's been staying dry and clean for the last three weeks.
We do pullups for bedtime and naps because while I think I could teach him to go potty if he woke up, I don't think the sensation (with the obvious exception that I wont get into) wakes him up at all. I sent him to naptime in underwear once (when we were in Houston) and he slept through the accident entirely.
Anyway so he's doing lots lots better. Just in time for preschool. Praise the Lord.
Chalupa, who I realize just had an update, is now handing me things and letting them go, which I know is developmental because the doctor asked me if he's doing it. So ... I can now say he is. He got a truck that rolls balls around and you drop them down this hole. He does it on his own and it's neat to see him and G play with it. G is not handling this "these toys are Chalupa's" very well. Growing up is hard.
