Lunch Date
A sentimental story. Indulge me.
It was probably within a few months of our first date. We were in Lubbock having lunch at Jason's Deli. I have no idea what we talked about. I have no idea where we were going or what we were doing. But after our meal was done, we both got soft serve ice cream. Because that's what you do at Jason's Deli.
I think this smells funny. Does your ice cream smell funny? Smell this ... He says, leaning his cone towards me.
Yes. I fell for it. Yes, I ended up with ice cream on my nose.
Is he the first man to find this funny? No.
Today Lewis worked from home and we thought we'd go to lunch before his afternoon appointments. I asked G where he wanted to go.
The place with the sandwiches and the ice cream.
We've only been there twice. Both times in Albuquerque with my mother. The one here in town is always, always, always busy. But we braved it. Because when a child who does not like food picks a place to go, you go.
At the door the hostess or something similar at a cafeteria style place handed me a high chair. I had two kids (one on my hip one in my hand) and a large purse and a menu. You have to order first. This woman single handedly added a lot of stress to this situation. But it worked out.
We sat down. We ate our meals. G had to be coerced but he ate most of his sandwich (sans the crust because it didn't look appetizing even to me) and some apples. He wanted his cone. So he and I went and got some ice cream.
His daddy told him to take big licks.
No daddy I bite it.
It started melting so I took it from him and asked him to stick his tongue out. Then I wiped the cone across his tongue. He thought this was superb fun.
Then I asked him to smell the ice cream. And he did and I smushed a bit on his nose.
He died laughing.
Mommy there's ice cream on my nose!
Why this was news I do not know. There was ice cream all over his face. But he was terribly pleased.
Ask daddy, mommy, ask daddy! I did, but on his way to work Lew wasn't too keen to get sugary soft serve all over his face.
Mommy you do it! So I smelled the ice cream and got some on my nose too. He died laughing again.
We offered some to Chalupa but its too cold and it startles him too much to enjoy it. He mostly just enjoyed watching G's fits of laughter.
It was a nice lunch date.
