Meet Joe the Crocodile
This is "my best friend Joe the Crocodile." He got a $20 gift card to Barnes and Noble for his birthday. So we went to the mall this week, Monday I think it was, to see what books he would get. Silly mommy, he didn't want any of the books. There were a lot of good choices. We don't have Pete's School Shoes, and we've listened to the song so he wants that book. There's this new book (about a crocodile, coincidentally) that I really think he'll looooove but no. First he wanted to get a new train for his train set. So we were walking up to the counter to pay. Then he saw two kids playing with chicken puppets. Mama! I want the chickens! And he played with the kids with the puppets for five or so minutes, and then he found Joe.
And he wanted to ditch Gordon (the new train) and pick up Joe.
Joe's original name was Buzz. But it didn't stick. I kept calling him Buzz but G was still calling him Crocodile. Do you like our car crocodile? Are you hungry crocodile? I asked him again what the crocodile's name was (which yes, I know looks more like an alligator, but you tell that to a 3yo who is pretty sure those words are interchangeable). G thought careful a minute, then said, Joe. Joe the Crocodile.
And Joe has stuck. And Joe goes with us everywhere. Joe tells us what we want for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Joe tells us when we have to go potty. G is never tired for naps. But Joe is. So we go nap. That happened yesterday. I know there's some sort of psychological development happening here and I bet it has a name. I just think it's cute.
Gma thinks that Joe looks a bit scary. Daddy thought that Joe looked very Craig Ferguson like. Which if you've ever watched Craig Ferguson you know what we're talking about. He uses puppets in his opening monologue. I think Joe is a great friend, to both child and mommy. It will lose it's glow, but right now if Joe wants to eat we eat. If Joe wants to take a bath, we take a bath. If Joe tells G to share, it's much more likely G will share.
Like I said, this won't last long. But while it does ... I'm using it!
