Our trip away. Or, Leaving a 7 month old for four days
I won't have a lot of time to write this all up. I haven't uploaded pictures and I might not get to that until ... well awhile. It's blue bonnet week and then we're doing something special for G on Saturday and then his birthday and then his party not to mention our wedding anniversary in there somewhere. But I wanted to write a few things down for posterity.
We went to Riviera Maya for 4 nights and 5 days with Lewis's company. He's a top sales rep they get invited to a thing called President's Club and it's all expenses paid and it's super nice and too good a thing to pass up. Plus have I mentioned that we had the January / February that will top the books as the most stressful months we've ever experienced? We needed a break. We'd earned a break.
So my inlaws in Houston watched the boys. We drove them down on Wednesday, caught a flight Thursday morning, and we're back in Houston by 10AM Monday (yesterday) to pick them up and drive back home.
M & D took terrific care of our kids. I was worried a lot the first two days but I calmed down some. By the time Saturday got here I was like eh, it's only two more days, they'll be okay. Chalupa was a bear for them. Didn't sleep great. Fussed over the bottle. I'm told he settled in but I'm thinking they are just being nice. M told us in the car on the ride home that when you haven't been in the baby stage for five years going back is awful. So I'm thinking that pretty much sums up their experience with Chalupa. G is a joiner and probably did okay unless he was tired then I'm sure he mouthed off. I mean at least he does with me! It's only fair that he do that with everyone.
I had almost 300 ounces pumped for Chalupa. That represents a great deal of my time. I had to pump while I was away. Pumping sucks. Like hard core. I've never had to do it that much that often and it was awful. I saw no decrease in supply. If anything, I think it's increased because I emptied the tank and he rarely does.
I dumped it all. I had a plan to bring some home but there was no freezer and customs is scary and TSA is el stupido and I didn't want to hassle with it. So I dumped it all. Broke my heart. But ... oh well.
I worried he wouldn't go back to nursing. Swear to Pete he saw me and it was the only thing he wanted to do. I think he would have been happy camping out there all day and night just to make sure I wasn't going anywhere.
Both my boys were wicked exhausted. Chalupa was fussy the whole way home to the point that I finally gave him tylenol and stopped to nurse him again and then he slept the rest of the way home. G watched the ipad the whole way home and was ready for bed at 530. As it was he was in bed by 630. Chalupa slept from 7 till 615, and I had to wake him up.
Probably not repeatable at this point, so don't get too excited for me. He'll probably be up evert three hours tonight.
He's still coughing. He's going to earn himself a trip to the doc. I'm going to call in 20min.
G didn't eat well. He came home starving. Soon as we got home he ate a sandwhich and a bunch of food and he woke up starving asking for food. Why my son will only eat on home court I don't know.
Mexico was great. I sat on the beach while Lew golfed and read books and drank cocktails until I felt awkward drinking alone and then went and found friends. The parties were okay (it's pretty programmed) the entertainment the main night was lame. The last night we had to leave early because 1) we had an hour drive to the airport and they were picking us up at 345 and 2) Lewis spilled red wine all over his shirt.
I missed my kids something awful. Being away from them made me pretty certain I want three. Picking them back up threw that into doubt again. Haha. We'll see where that ends up. I do think you have to go into the last pregnancy knowing it's the last in order for it to be the last. So ... take that for what it's worth.
Lewis has been up for almost 48 hours straight. He had an event last night didn't get to bed till after 1AM and then had to be up at 530 to be at work early for a presentation. He's going to be exhausted.
It was interesting pumping, seeing how much there is at any given time of day. 10oz at 7AM, 8oz at 9AM, 6 oz at 2, 6oz at 6oz, 4oz thereafter until the AM again. So what is that? Roughly 34oz per 24hours? That seems about right. Just interesting to see how that all works. But like I said, that's way way way more (maybe 6oz more) than he eats every single day. I'm hurting today and started to get engorged again on Sunday. Wierd. I was so worried about losing supply and nursing being over. I need to trust more, just like my very good friend says. I need to remember how long it took to wean (6 weeks). But of course I never do. I was so worried about leaving him.
I'm sunburned. I used sunscreen. I sat in the shade. I wore a tshirt. My back still burned. Life is not fair.
I'm very glad to be home. Can't wait to get the camera out for blue bonnets, the special train event this weekend, and the overall birthday stuff that's coming. Can't believe my son is 3. Crazy.
My boys love each other. It's adorable. I know there's twin magic and twins just love each other but I think siblings have magic all their own and with twins you just see it immediately because they are born together. G calls Chalupa his best friend and big brother ( because we are always agog over how big Chalupa is) Chalupa is always reaching for G and roaring at him and trying to communicate with him and trying to interact with him. They like to be holding hands and wrestling a bit. It's adorable. They are a set. They don't even know each other, not really, but they recognize each other as buddies. I find that amazing. I hope it sticks. I know they'll fight like the devil. I have siblings. I know how it goes. It's just cool to watch the good moments.
