I went a little overboard, maybe? With the treats? The matchbox cars there almost didn't make the cut, I thought I'd hold on to those for his birthday. But at the last minute I thought he should have at least one actual toy.
This turned out to be the right call.

G's favorite was the cars, naturally. He got several books which I keep having to read and reread (Chalupa got books too which I keep having to read and reread). Including Pete Plays Ball. Which is a great learning to read book except that ... um Pete is no good at baseball. He strikes out. He drops the ball. He overthrows the ball. He is out at home plate. It's border line depressing. And we read Casey at the Bat fairly regularly so I'm not opposed to games in which it doesn't go the home teams way. But after each Pete mistake - where it reads "But Pete is not Upset. Pete tried his best." I add the line, "Pete just needs to practice."
But he loves the book. So I read it. And who knows. Maybe it's not passing through into any permanent holding in his brain anyway. Maybe baseball won't be his game. The other Pete book we got, Pete's Lunch, is cute. About sharing. We like that one alot too.
These were our first foray into Pete the Cat.
The Bible stories are cute too. Very easy to understand and it's the stories you'd expect; Noah, David and Goliath, Daniel and the Lions. I'm surprised Jonah didn't make it now that I think on it. But I need to get a Children's Bible and we need to start reading the verses he's studying in school at home too. He sings Jesus Loves Me. It's pretty spectacular.
Oooh. Good word. I need to get him saying that one.
Easter was swell. I made lamb with mint/oregano pesto and it was yummy. First attempt at lamb. And last for a while. That stuff ain't cheap!
