Six months, redeaux

Only because we saw the doctor today.  I just wanted to write down some of what we discussed.

It should be noted that at these appointments we always end up talking about G.  The doctor comes in, takes in Chalupa's chubby legs and arms and says something like "we love chunky babies!  you're brother is blah blah blah" and I end up saying something like, "G is doing so good!  We love G!"  And then the doctor says "I'm just glad to see one chunky member of your family."

This makes me irrationally defensive.  But it is what it is.

Chalupa is doing great.  I did talk to him about the sleep thing, only because I don't want to let him cry, but I don't want to hurt him sleep wise, because I believe 12 hours of sleep is really important for babies and kiddos.  And I wanted to know if anything I was doing (getting up with him, continued night feedings) was going to hurt him later on.

The doc was very reassuring and nice to me.  He said that if I did nothing he would learn to sleep through the night probably at about a year.  But I should do a handful of things (already doing them) to help ease that process along a bit.

After G's precipitous weight stagnation at about 6 months old I am a tad nervous that will happen to Chalupa.  The doc said that was silly.  For the record I did not force G to sleep through the night at any age.  I did not let him cry it out either.  The most I ever let him cry was 15 minutes, ever.  Even now.  I just think babies/kids are babies/kids and they need help learning to deal with their emotions and enviornments.  Sometimes that requires rocking and soothing from mama.  As much as that wears mama out.  But G started sleeping till about 5AM at 6.5 months, maybe 7?  And by 8 (9 for sure) he was sleeping 7 to 7.

Chalupa is a different kid.  So we'll see what he does.

But it is funny in these appointments we end up talking about G's EE and his steroids and the treatment and his weight and what he's eating.  We say very little about Chalupa.  The doc was worried about his hand grasp stuff.  I shook him off.  I don't let Chalupa play with small objects therefore I don't know if he can pick up small objects.  I'm certain he's fine.  He's not delayed.  Though I guess I should let him try to pick up a cheerio.

Oh and his weight was actually 18lbs 2oz and his weight was 26.75in.  So there you go.
