Sleep Follies Part 1,000,000,000 *updated*

I've mentioned a couple of times that G had started sleeping on the floor at nap and bedtime.  Who can explain why this was happening?  Not me.  There are a number of factors.  He grew.  He's like, several inches taller.  Reaching light switches.  Jumping off stuff.  He's just bigger.  He's older, more mature.  More understanding of cause and effect and he knows that if he does something, Mama's going to do something back, but um ... it's not that bad.

This has thrown a wrench into a lot of mean mama's authority.

Preschool naptime.  It's on the floor.  It just encourages the floor sleeping.

Anyway I'm over it.  I dealt with it for a month.  Some days he woke up happy, some days he woke up cranky.  I need him to know sleeping is for beds, a majority of the time.  I mean if he wants to crash on the floor every once in a while whatever floats his boat.  But every night, sleeping with an ear under the door trying to hear what's going on ... nope.  Mama's over it.

So ... I let him pick out new sheets.  Lightning McQueen it is.  I let him pick out a toy pillow.  Buzz Lightyear it is.  When he slept in his bed at naptime today, when he woke up I rushed up the stairs to catch him in his bed, and made a great fuss over him and handed him a lollipop.  What a great job!  Sleeping in his bed!

And then I bought one of those fish tank night light things and strapped it to his bed.  He liked it.  Thought it was pretty neat.  I strapped it to his bed and he was intrigued.  New sheets are on the bed, he liked them.

I still had to tell him to stay in bed.  Still had to remind him to stay in bed.  Still had to tell him no, do not bring the pillow to the floor.  It took some doing.  But he's in his bed.  I am hoping he stays all night but we shall see.  I promised him a lollipop first thing if he stays in his bed all night.  I'm a dentists worst nightmare.  But I can't have bedtime being such an unfun thing for him.  I'd have a party every night and make the bed super fun and bribe him with pinatas if I thought it would lessen his anxiety and  make bedtime more pleasant.

This war is far from over.  But this squeamish tonight is going in my favor, and that's progress.

UPDATE
Somewhere around 2AM he woke up and moved to the floor.  The battle was lost.  The war rages on.  I have no idea how to combat this.  I've done all I can.  I will keep on keeping on.  And he will probably continue to sleep on the floor.  Hopefully with the fan now in the hallway, I can move his brother upstairs sometime next week.

With his ear next to the door, on the floor, he could hear my footsteps on the floor, and he woke up screaming the first time I tried to move Chalupa upstairs.  I believe he was scared.  So hopefully the fan in the hallway will mitigate that until he decides his bed is cool again.
