Sick

It all started three weeks ago when Lewis came home from work on Friday feeling not great.  By Sunday he was a feverish heap on the couch, unmoving.  By Wednesday he was better.

The following Sunday, G started displaying symptoms of unwell.  By Tuesday he was a mess of fever, runny nose, cough and over all whineyness.  He had a fever until Sunday. (For the record, I did take him to the doc on Friday, just to make sure it wasn't an ear infection or some other thing that could be easily cured by drugs).

It's now Tuesday a week later, and he has no fever, his nose is runny but clear, and his cough is horrible.  He's on his third day of missing school.  He is whiney and difficult to be around.  Everything makes him cry.  I am at my wits end.  Seriously.  I have no patience left.  The tank is empty.  Zilch.  Nada.

Thank God my parents are coming on Thursday otherwise I would be contemplating a fire station drop off.

Okay not even close but still.  I am so short tempered with G it's horrible.  I have terrible guilt about it but Lord help me the whining is going to kill me.  It doesn't help that I too have succombed to this awful virus and am getting sick.  The baby is also sick.

Purgatory's got nothing on a sick household of whiney, needy kids.

I posted on facebook for this thirteenth day of thanks that I am grateful for the opportunity to improve my patience, and I suppose that's true.  But really that's a wish and I hope to someday achieve that level of zen.

We've been home bound for ten days.  We have not been out with friends we haven't gone to a park, we haven't done ANYTHING.  And it's making us all nuts.  We go to the grocery store and I get scary looks from the other patrons that seem to say, "is your child going to contaminate us all with this? GO HOME."  But we have to eat.  After 10 days of no grocery shopping we were getting a little bare.  And there's only so many times I can have the husband pick stuff up and I forget to tell him to get things and we're out of wipes and the kids lotion and the ever important juice.

Also adding to my irritation is the fact that G's lost half a pound.  This is huge in his world.  I have no way to combat this.  He's sick.  He spent two days off food.  That's all it took.  I'm scared of how long it will take us to get that half pound back.

Oh well.  Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger.  I will be like the sword of Gryfindor, and only take on things that will strengthen me.  So hopefully, from this that's a higher level of patience and a greater appreciation for our overall health.

Sending "get-well" thoughts your way. I think being sick at the same time your kids are is one of the hardest, scariest things about motherhood. I can do anything when I'm feeling well myself, but when I'm sick too...well, then it's just time to call my mommy. Glad you're getting some grandma assistance in the near future.
