Welcome Fall

From Collages
The changing of the seasons around here is marked more by the calendar than by the weather.  It's still in the high 80s and low 90s.  Today was impossibly humid (bring on the rain) but I get to feeling so guilty about G being cooped up in the house.

So we made the trip downtown to the arboretum to see the fall pumpkins.  It is logistically difficult with two.  I am grateful G minds because we sat on a bench and he ate his snack while I fed the baby.  He didn't run off (many kids would) and he listens when he does wander off and makes his way back.

D --

Side note: for the record.  I do not call my kids G or D in real life.  I do this in the cyber world and via txt because I'm really that lazy.  I'd rather type one letter than five.  But over and over again people come up to me and ask me, "how is G doing?"  Nu, nu, no.  His name is G*****.  G never really bothered me that much, but D bothers me.  D is a girls name (a la Dee).  So ... for the record, I do not call me children only by their first letters in real life.  End side note.

D is a very good eater and I swear he's over 10lbs already.  I have no idea how much G weighed at a month.  But I do know that at two months he weighed 11lbs 4oz.  On his current trend, D will out pace his brother.

Now why is this?  The obvious answer is different kid, different needs, different body just ... different.  I do wonder how much is me.  Last time I had experts in my head.  Too many experts.  Never let a newborn go more than three hours between feedings, feed ten minutes per side as to not get lopsided ...

I wish I could shoot the experts in the head.  I know so much more now.  Sigh.  I'm sorry first born son.  You were like a guinea pig.

Another thing, at three weeks old (last night) D went six hours between feedings.  G did not do that until he was five weeks old.  This is how I know he has to be somewhere above or close to 10 pounds. When he wakes up I'll get him on the scale.

What does all this mean?  Well I hope it means his digestive system is more mature than G's.  G still has problems (though blessedly those are less).

Oh, for that ... G's EE has not reared it's ugly head again.  He has reflux, so I know there's something going on, but it's not too the point that it's ruining his appetite and he's not throwing up so I'm not putting him back on the meds.  There are enough steroids in his life with the excema.  I know exactly how much that stuff hurts so I have to use that occasionally.

We've also learned recently that G's grandfather on my side has EE.  This reassures me a lot.  One, I think it's hereditary.  Two, my dad has eaten and grown and thrived so G will too.  And it doesn't hurt my dad to eat.  So hopefully it doesn't hurt G that much to eat.

It's hard to get good pictures of the two boys.  But I'll keep trying.  You know I will keep trying.
