Thoughts as we prepare ...

... I have near constant contractions after about 4PM.  Last night they were 45 seconds long, and three minutes apart for about an hour.  Then they slowed to 6 minutes apart.  Then I went to bed.  I was still having some last night, some of them painful (and in my back - which scares me), but obviously not real labor.  Yet.

... I go back to the doc on Wednesday (officialy 38w) and I'm thinking by then I'll have my induction date.  The week of my due date is also G's first week of pre-school.  I really, really want to be able to drop him off and pick him up at least those first two days.  The second day is a stretch, for sure, but the first one ... surely I can manage it.  Last doctors appointment (Friday) there was no progress from the week before.  Still 2 and 75%.

... Nesting this time has been different.  I have no energy and I have to monitor the contractions and what not and keep up with G.  So I haven't been cleaning everything.  But all the clothes were cleaned months ago.  His sheets are clean.  Not that he'll sleep up there any time soon.  I do have to set up some sort of changing table downstairs.

... The bag is packed.  Sort of.  The computer isn't it.  The camera isn't in it.  I think I'm going to put the point and shoot in there, just in case.  Everyone I come in contact with I end up saying something like, "so can I call you if I go into labor if I become desperate and need help with G?"  To which Lewis says, Stacy he can go to the hospital if he has to.  Sure, sure he could.  NO HE CAN NOT.  It's not fair to the second if I have to worry about the first and not concentrate on what I'm doing.  Plus, G's not going to understand why mama can't move, why mama can't hold him, why mama has this weird needle in her arm - here let me just pull that out.  He isn't invited.  It's a private party with me, his baby brother and his daddy.  I'll see him afterwards.

... I hate these last weeks of waiting.  "They" do this to you.  "They" tell you it could be any time, but in reality it could be NO TIME as well.  Working was sort of a good thing last time, at this point, because at least I had random emails and office gossip to distract me.  Being home I just think of things I need to be doing.  And none of them will make the baby come or time pass faster.

... To which I point out, I would rather he was late.  I asked for the late induction date.  Babies do better later, in my view, or as close to 40w as possible.  I've said this before, I'm sorry I'm a broken record.  Lewis thinks labor will start in about 10 days.  Some time in the 39th week (means he might hit his Aunts birthday).  But as we all know ... babies come when babies come.  Or they get evicted.  :)

... My brother, who has no experience with birthin' babies, said "I didn't know babies could come whenever they wanted to."  And I looked at him and said, "When did you think they came?"  He said, "Well you have a due date, right?"
