Pre-School

Our pre-school teacher just called to introduce herself.  She sounds like you'd expect a pre-school teacher to sound; bubbly, kind, excitable.  We went over that G goes by G, and if she calls him Lewis he'll look around for his Daddy.  I briefly went over his EE.  Briefly.  Pretty much just saying he's fine, it's given us some bad habits and he's a very picky eater.  I told her I'm concerned that he won't eat while he's there.

She said she will give him extra encouragement, and I asked about what sorts of finger foods folks can send.  We talked about that and everything she listed?  Yeah nothing G will eat.  Cut up meats and cheeses.  Don't I so wish.  And she said something polite and kind and I said well, worst case I send him with cheerios or gold fish every day, and he will survive.  It's just lunch.  He can eat when he gets home anyway.

Meet the teacher is next week.  My baby's first teacher.  Don't laugh at me, but this is going to be so hard on me.  I am going to lose my mind those first two days he's at school, gone, away.  I will cry.  I will cry harder than he will. (Pray that's true).

We've been talking up preschool, talking about how fun it will be, all the singing of songs, the painting, the playing on the playground (he's most excited about that).  I hope that he loves his teacher.  I hope she is kind to him, really kind, and patient.  Because that's why I picked this place; to have a loving enviornment that wasn't going to drill subjects into him and force him to grow up too quickly.  I want singing of the alphabet and counting of crayons and blocks and painting and making a mess and hugs when he falls down.  Lots of hugs when he falls down.

My baby's first teacher.

I'm not sure I'm ready for this.  But he's two and a half.  My baby is two and a half.  And starting his academic career that will last, more than likely, at least 20 more years.  Can not believe it.
