A Good Day

Several days ago, maybe even a week, G and I had a good day.  This isn't to say the rest of our days are bad, or that we have only had ONE good day, but it was a good day.  We stayed home.  I don't think we did much of anything.  I probably should have hit the grocery store.  But that is like my least favorite chore these days.  I forget everything, it's hard to corral the kid, and he hates being in the cart.

Anyway.

We had a good day. A relaxing morning. Mom had her coffee. G had his cheerios, his yogurt, he played with his toys. He probably watched some Mickey Mouse. I honestly can't remember. But at some point I pulled out the camera and decided we could sit outside and play with the water table and the hose.

This is a cheapy water sprinkler that was on sale at target. The first few times, as with everything else, he wasn't so sure what to make of it. But this time he thought he could inspect it.

And he discovered that he could manipulate where the sprayers spray their water. This was an excellent discovery; for him. Not so much for mama. Or the dog. Both of us got sprayed. But it was like 104 outside so who really cared?

I wish I could tell you it was hours of entertainment. It wasn't. Maybe 20 minutes?

But he enjoyed himself.

And I even made dinner. Which these days is a rare thing. I've done better this week, as I think the nesting thing is kicking in and since I don't really have much I can do, I can make dinner.

And he ate his dinner.  Not those chips that you see there.  Because I have the only child in the history of ever that wont eat french fries or potato chips or anything fried (except chicken nuggets).

But he did eat his dinner.  And he was happy.  And played with the ipad.  Which I know there's some controversy about ipads and iphones and apps for kids ... but honestly I see him learning things.  The mickey mouse app taught him how many sides are there on a triangle (three - just ask him) and the iphone flash card ap has helped his pronounciation.  He repeats what they say.  It's very clever.

This is the easiest recipe ever and it's very tasty and makes a nice gravy. And I made mashed potatos. Which I could eat by the pound.  With the gravy this makes.  Pork tenderloin in a baking dish about half full with red wine, the dryer the better, I think, salt and pepper and rosemary.  Cooked till 165.  You can do this many ways.  You can set your oven to 350 and cook for a few hours, I have done that.  Or you can do 400 for like 45 minutes.  I have done that too.  The first way creates more tender meat, obviously.  Then you drain the sauce into a sauce pan, mix with a packet of brown gravy ... or, if you don't have that, mix up cold water and flour and then wisk into the pain and season as needed.

Regardless it's really good and it's easy.  My husbands probably tired of eating "easy" meals.  But ... them's the breaks.
