Notes

A handful of notes to appease my mother ...

... there's been a lot of studies out today and yesterday about how grabbing, slapping, hitting, or something (but not spanking - they did not include spanking) causes an increase in mental health disorders and drug and alcohol abuse.  The metrics of the study are so completely bogus it's a wonder anyone is taking it seriously at all.  They didn't follow these kids throughout their lives (there was another study done on spanking that followed kids for 20 years) and "researched" 20 year olds and asked about their backgrounds, etc.  I have no great philosophy on spanking or punishment.  I have a hitter ... which means when he gets frustrated and mad at me, he swats me.  This is not something I've ever done to him, and it's new, within the last few weeks/month or so.  I can't hit him back, the idea of saying "don't hit" and swatting him just seems counterproductive.  But seriously, he can't hit me.  It's completely unacceptable.  I have read and been told that "time out" isn't nice either but we use that, and it's not pleasant.  I hate pulling out mean mommy.  But I have to tell you, mean mommy is effective.  Because ...

... Big boy bed transition (which is a phrase I'm so tired of saying, btw) has gone very well.  The first two nights were very hard and nap time is still a challenge.  BUT, he doesn't get out of bed.  The first few times he would climb out and I'd walk in and catch him in the act and say "NO!" (mean mommy) and now I just tell him "it's time for bed, you have to stay in the bed."  And in some amazing twist of fate, he does.  Mean mommy is not to be messed with.  In good news, mean mommy didn't have to visit bed time last night, and daddy put him down tonight and it went great.  I'm very pleased.  I'm not calling it done, because like I said nap time is still hard for him, but it's going better than I had hoped.

... Pregnancy #2 is at 30w tomorrow.  I see definite differences with a summer time pregnancy.  I have to drink water or I get sick.  Really.  It's wierd.  I'm outside for 5 minutes and I'm parched.  I also get heartburn when I don't drink enough water.  I'm also running out of room for my stomach, and the child is dancing on my bladder.  Did not happen with G.  It's so wierd.  And when I sit certain ways my lungs get squished.  How does that happen?  These are all good things because they mean he is growing.  This is the part of the pregnancy where you go oh my gosh I can't wait till he's out and it's done on purpose because otherwise ... well he's a lot easier to take care of in my belly then he will be when he comes out!

... Tomorrow is the 4th of July and hopefully I get some great pictures of a certain little boy, with a certain truck, in a certain parade.  :)  Stay tuned.
