Chihuly

Chihuly is everywhere, it seems. This summer, he's at the Dallas Arboretum. The man has hundreds of sculptures, it makes me wonder how the stuff isn't mass produced. We saw this piece, and one other one not shown (think red and yellow ball of squigglies) while we were in the Bahamas.  My mom saw some in Vegas.  I think he gets commissioned (that sounds like how the Atlantis thing went).  And honestly, me being the cultural swine that I am, I'm just not that overly impressed.  I mean it's cool, no doubt.  But the sculptures by themselves?  Meh.  But in the arboretum?  It was much more impressive.

I took G and we ran around the parks and looked at the "balls" and he wondered why they were stuck in the water that he couldn't swim in. Him being two and all, he wasn't too concerned with the squigglies or the glass but the balls ... those he did take an interest in.  He got a little close to the waters edge for my liking and he really did want to go in and get them.  After a few minutes of watching them, he got tired (and hot) and wanted to sit and drink his juice in the stroller.  Oh and chase after the lawn mowers; his favorite part of the arboretum.

There are more pictures. We did not stay long. It was only 84 degrees but I can't walk around and chase him in that kind of heat without just wearing myself out.  I think we were there maybe 30 minutes?  They are also doing a night exhibit and I think I will attempt to make a date with the husband to go see that.  The glass is all lit up and they have other light show elements.  It's a beautiful park, at any rate.  I'm glad we are members.
