It's been a crazy summer at our house. I think it always is but when you add in moving, setting up a new house - PREGNANCY - to all the birthday parties and get togethers it's just a lot.
Last weekend we were invited to three birthday parties. We made it to two. I just can't force the issue and make a two year old behave for two birthday parties in one day. Ryan's birthday party was at this really cool indoor place that had bounce houses and trains. Last year these places freaked G out. But this year ... well he still talks about it.
And he thinks that every birthday party has a train ride, and he's disappointed when they do not. He loved the train. He must have ridden it 5 times. He was less sure of the big bounce houses.
But I went in one with him that had basketball hoops and balls and he loved it. He still talks about that too.
And he is much more independent at these things now. He wants me to follow him, to be sure, but he'll run off and go to the section he wants and I have to keep constant watch to make sure he doesn't get run over by his beloved train or make a bee line for the front door thinking something awesome is happening outside.
Then this past Saturday we had a house warming party. A small party. I didn't invite everyone I could have because our house, while large, still has limited seating and honestly I'm just not in a position to provide enough food for lots of guests and their families. But I think everyone had a good time.
The best cupcakes I've ever made. And it's all thanks to my oven. Had I known how poorly my previous oven was cooking before, we would have replaced it years ago. Everything got burnt on the bottom and I think it was because the coils (it was electric) did not heat evenly. The new oven is gas and I will only go back in protest. Everything cooks so much better in it.
25 beach balls. My husbands idea. He wanted a ball mosh pit for the kids. They loved it.
Our friends going through the baby name book and circling names like "Axel" and "Hungas." They are so helpful like that.
The better halves of those clowns up top. And their offspring, in some cases.
This is the closet under the stairs aka the toy closet. It's a nice play to hide the toys so that I don't have to see them everyday and G still has access to toys downstairs.
G has decided that icing is awesome, but cake is not. So he licks off all the icing and leaves the cake.
Water tables are awesome and hours of entertainment for many ages.
Kids love pushing things (and pulling). They had a good time.
It was a good party and I think everyone had a good time. We always have a good time with these folks and while I have other friends that would have been fun to show the house too ... I just don't have the energy to socialize with everyone. Lewis wanted to invite other folks too (many of his childless friends) and afterwards I asked him if he understood why I didn't invite them. He sort of did. It's mostly out of respect for them. The kids were loud, crazy and a handful. All together they get into much mischief and the older kids (5yo) are ring leaders of crazy antics for the toddlers. The babies are pretty easy. But the 5yo's leading the 2yo's off a cliff (so to speak) is sort of exhausting for the parents.
The house is in good shape but I'm still not ready to show you pictures. The boys rooms need to be decorated and the other rooms are just what you'd imagine. Really nice rooms with my furniture in them. Someday I'll get it all spiffy and take pictures. Maybe when nesting really kicks in.
Speaking of. I went through and got all the newborn - 3mos clothes out. It was bitter sweet. Exciting to see those miniature doll-sized outfits out but oh my gosh was G ever that small? So many of them are slightly discolored around the necklines from his reflux issues. I'm trying to fix some of them, but they may just have to get pitched. There are some really cut outfits (mostly long sleeves) that G never got to wear that will be perfect for new baby. I get more and more excited about meeting him. And apprehensive. I worry all the time about his health and sudden, spastic movements in my belly. Is he okay? Is he just startling? Is he okay? I think this is part - a large part - of why pregnancy and I just don't get along ... so much unknown.
