Anecdotes
I read G about 5 or 6 books every night. I set him in his bed, he walks to the end, and stands there and says "yea" or "no" to whatever book I suggest. The winners, of late, are Preschool Day Hooray, Frogs Friends, Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The Little Engine that Could, and The Pout Pout Fish. There's others. But those are the favorites of late. Oh he loves all the If you give a ... books. Still loves Dr. Suess.
Anyway. So tonight I hand him The Little Engine that Could and he takes it and scurries off to the other end of his bed and sits on his pillow. He opens it and starts to read. This isn't new or anything, but usually he just babbles incoherently with maybe one or two words that make sense thrown in.
Tonight, he opened to a page and said, "Please kind engine, please pull us over the mountain." It sounded more like, "Peas kind engine, peas pulls ore montayne." But it was still very clear for a two year old. I mean he puts together sentences all the time, and the things he remembers - and talks about - is incredible.
For instance, he can still wake up from naps or in the morning and first thing, very first thing, say "Fire truck hit me in the face." Which is about something that happened over 4th of July, when he was looking up at a firetruck that was at our parade, and he walked into the hitch on the front of the truck. Hit him right in the teeth. If you point at his teeth and he's been thinking about it, he'll say fire truck hit teeth? Just funny.
He also picks up the pretend phone he has and says hello, and when I ask who's calling he says "Katie and Brayden," who are our two friends. Brayden is a year younger than him but G likes playing with him. We talk about pre-school and the friends he will see there and he asked me if he will see Brayden and Davis there (11mos and 13mos respectively). Just funny.
I'm going to bring the camera up with me tomorrow at bedtime (if I remember, if it's a good day) and see if I can get him on tape "reading." Because it makes me smile.
