One Week

Five weeks of displacement.  Oi.  At least we're in the home stretch.  One more week left.

It has not been that bad.  I mean - and this is what I told my mom when she kept saying moving was the worst - taking G to the emergency room is the worst.  G being sick is the worst.  This is all nothing.  I can deal with all this.

Not always gracefully, mind you.

The first three weeks (four?) G wouldn't eat.  I swear we were lucky to get 200 calories in him a day.  He wouldn't feed himself either, so almost everything we got in him was because we put it to his mouth.

But when we got back to Texas from Albuquerque, and picked up the dog and brought her to our friends house, he walked up to their table and said "eat?"  And in the last week he's started saying "I hungry."  And he'll request goldfish and peanut butter.  Or peaches.  Or water melon.  Or strawberries.  Or chicken nuggets.

The doctor said it would get easier as he got more verbal.  There have been several good days in a row.  The only "issue," persay, is that he gets hungry at inopportune times (like 4:30 instead of 5:30).  But not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, when he says he's hungry, I do not usually argue with him.

I'm holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop.  Waiting for the crying fits and the refusals.  Don't get me wrong, he's still the worlds pickiest eater.  Tonight he turned down a cookie.  Earlier in this trip he turned down cake, ice cream, and other candies.  Our gracious hosts were shocked.

But the last week has been good.  So that's something.

But in other, normal toddler news ... temper tantrums suck.  Emotional outbursts, demands for things, screaming "MOM!" at the top of his lungs until I do what he wants ... yeah all that sucks.  And if you think your little sweetheart will never do those things ... okay yeah sure.  And if you think you won't be that parent in the grocery store wheeling around a screaming toddler who'd rather be anywhere else (namely the fire station, looking for fire trucks) ... well just don't be too shocked when it turns out you're wrong.

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do with myself in the new house.  Hopefully it all goes smoothly.
