The Case for Polygamy

Tongue in cheek of course.

We've been staying with our good friends for just about two weeks now.  Lewis has been here for just about six.  Rather than getting on each others nerves, we have decided that this arrangement should be replicated across the land, because it's brilliance.

Last year at the lake house we figured out that 8 adults and 7 children are far better odds than most of us have on any given day.  And usually you only need two / three adults to handle dinner with means that 5 adults get a break from cooking, but do have to watch children.  And 5 adults can handle 7 children.

So we figured out why women buy into polygamy.  It's not because they like sharing male attention.  It's because they like sharing the work load.  And while none of us were prepared to change marital contracts or anything for a switch to polygamy, we were willing to look at a commune.  Because dude ... it's so nice to have help.  Like real help.  Like - I have to go to the grocery store can you watch him for half an hour? - help.  Or, I need to lie down can you take this one while I nap?

We got the keys to our new house today.  They are all moved out and the house is ours.  All lovely and nice and I really can't wait.  So exciting.

But I will miss our friends.  I will miss G with 3yo and 1yo.  Built in playdates.  He really needed an older brother not a younger one.  He really has loved playing with 3yo.  And I know that most people get tired of folks, but us and our friends here just click along so well.  We always have.  So I will miss our time here.

Soon!  I hope our furniture looks nice in my new house.  I'd hate to look around and think I need all new things.  :)
