Out of Pocket

So we've officially moved out of the house.  We've officially closed on the new house.  But we're renting it back to the previous owners until school is out, because we're kind like that.  So we're homeless.

It's hard being so transient.  We're blessed to have friends that a) have room for us b) are kind enough to let us use it and c) seem like to us enough to let us stay here for weeks on end.  They have two small children (3 and 1) and G loves it here.  Toys galore.  A dog.  Big backyard.  Room to play.  All the things we didn't have much of at the old house - but will have at the new house - are here.  Him and 3 year old son get along great.  Today after dinner they disappeared into the master bedroom and 3yo shut the door.  His father went in to check and came out and said, "3yo has put Disney channel on for them in the bedroom," and when I walked back in there, sure enough, G was jumping on his toes excited for cartoons and the lights were off and saying, in his deliberate way, "shut the door."

He came out a few minutes later and found his dad and dragged him back in there.  Seems 3yo had climbed on his parents bed but G is still a bit small to manage that on his own, so he needed his daddy's assistance.  I walked back in there and they are both laying against the pillows, under blankets, watching mickey mouse and acting like it's the best thing ever.

Poor 1yo follows after the two boys but she can't keep up.  It's interesting to watch the dynamics at work. 3yo is clearly in charge, G and 1yo follow after him, and sometimes G will stop and take toys from 1yo, just to make sure she knows she's the littlest.

Being under foot like this is hard, and I hate feeling in the way or like we are changing their routine or messing things up in anyway.  But it's a blessing to have a place to stay for a while.  I'll be traveling around starting this week and we'll be away from Daddy for the better part of three weeks.  It's not going to be pleasant but it's necessary.  Staying here the full six weeks just isn't fair.  Plus it's a good excuse to go visiting.

Anyway ... the two boys together give me great hope for my own two boys.  Just gotta get the youngest one fully baked and on his way to personhood.
